kravietz 🦇#Ember has just rediscovered hydraulic fracking - but make no mistake, what was in 2000-2010 presented as the ultimate technology of apocalypse (‘earthquakes’, ‘toxic mud leaks’, ‘methane coming out of the tap’ and, in general, a total mayhem) has been transformed into an environmentally friendly technology for ‘creating permeability in geothermal rocks’ and ‘artificially fractured rock’ 😄
Of course, fracking was just as safe in 2000-2010 as it is today, the difference is obviously in perception, which at that time was carefully crafted with Russian money in the US, the EU and Ukraine.
I very much support this technology for increasing the economic potential of geothermal energy, but I just cannot ignore how stupid the narratives about fracking were back then which, in turn, led to Europe dependence on Russian gas when the US over time started getting 80% of their gas from local fracking wells.
