I just love these little metallic moths. They are casebearers—as caterpillars, they build little cases or shells for themselves out of plant matter, debris, etc.

We were very lucky to come across this mating Cecropia Moths. Oddly, to me the dark pattern at the centre of this one’s back actually resembles a stemmed cup (like the Holy Grail), though the term “engrailed” usually means “having a scalloped inner border”, which I’m sure is the actual intent behind the name.
