It was a fairly slow morning on the moth sheet today but still had some friends come by to visit
This one was actually pretty far from the sheet, almost to the roof on the side of the house, and I'm so glad I spotted it. Not a great photo but what sight!
My first Oregon Emerald!
Synchlora aerata, the Wavy-lined Emerald
What I believe to be Oligia rampartensis, crawling on my finger
I very gently revealed its hindwing to help hopefully secure an ID to species
It definitely survived the encounter and seemed to have flown off in the morning like 99% of the other critters brought in to the moth sheet
Tbh I was probably as nervous as it was. That was my first time handling a moth this way but it went well
Scopula junctaria, the Simple Wave
A lovely delicate white moth, stunning in its own way compared to most of the others
There were several of these cuties today, none yesterday.
Thatβs why itβs moth week, and not moth day!
Red-bordered Wave, Idaea demissaria
An absolute stunner this morning
Caripeta aequaliaria, the Western Conifer Looper
A big and beautiful one; genus Oligia.
Possibly Oligia rampartensis? One of the βbrocadeβ moths, a first for the county on iNat
