Oh right it's #MothWeek!

I just love these little metallic moths. They are casebearers—as caterpillars, they build little cases or shells for themselves out of plant matter, debris, etc.

Small Engrailed Moth (Ectropis crepuscularia) observed June 9, 2024

Oddly, to me the dark pattern at the centre of this one’s back actually resembles a stemmed cup (like the Holy Grail), though the term “engrailed” usually means “having a scalloped inner border”, which I’m sure is the actual intent behind the name.
