I'm a writer for hire in games! I'm in Finland.

Here are some player observations about our work for Nine Parchments in the writing team, which I was big kahuna, boss of. These comments are from 2025, while the game was released in 2017.

One of the particular things I did for Nine Parchments was to try and not make our characters cookie-cutter, because I thought it would make the game a rather lackluster experience.

The core of critique during and after development for the characters was the thought that characters should embody the tropes their game design represents, which is a common conservative mindset for character building, but I think it comes from a place of fear, and I don't think narrative design should come from a place of "what if we turn off the players by introducing something new and different in their lives?" because then you're leading with fear, not innovation and creativity.

In any case, no one is ever going to create a cultural artefact that is going to be universally loved. And creating something with personality is going to make you stand apart, which never hindered marketing.

🇬🇧 Originally, I was doing research on Legion's dialogue in #MassEffect2, but along the way, I may have stumbled upon something that's a lot more juicy - namely, the dialogue Chris L'Etoile had originally written for EDI about his version of the Reapers, and the identity of the person who might actually be behind the idea with Legion's N7 armor.

Chris L’Etoile’s original dialogue about the Reaper embryo & the person who was (probably) behind the decision with Legion’s N7 armor

(EDIT: Okay, so Idk why Tumblr displays the headline twice on my end, but if it does for you, please ignore it.) [Mass Effect 2 spoilers!] FRIENDS! MASS EFFECT FANS! PEOPLE! You wouldn't believe it,...

She graduated from the Writing for Film, Television & Games program at Vancouver Film School (VFS) in 2020 and was the recipient of the Academic Achievement Award. She has since returned to VFS as an instructor and student mentor. Ray Clark is an independent game developer, working in video games, card games, and board games. Ray is a graduate of the Creative Writing BFA and MFA programs at the University of British Columbia, where they currently teach writing for video games and for new media. Their independent work is published on Steam and itch.io, and they also assist US-based board game publisher Plaid Hat Games in testing, editing, and development. ---This event will take place in the Montalbano Family Theatre on Level 8 of the Central Library. --- Please register.
