There are dots but no one around long enough to join them… Short-termism. A few years ago all the big LICs (Listed Investment Companies) in Australia were pointing out that as long-term investors they were there to grow value - not short-term gains. They were quite miffed to be treated the same as short term profit takers. It’s a different mindset to think ahead ten years vs next quarter. As @Salvo points out in a neat real world example down thread.

It's right to go for growth — we need the cash. And they will achieve growth — but mostly for foreign companies and millionaires/billionaires.
Just as for #NHS waiting lists, their fix for the #economy is #shortTermism. Long term we'll be deeper in debt and worse off.
True growth involves supporting #UKbusiness. Things like #Corbyn's business banks.
And supporting UK business means supporting ordinary UK people: no poverty, good housing, health, education
It seems increasingly likely that the reason we haven't solved Fermi's Paradox is because any sufficiently technologically advanced civilization inevitably discovers large language models and ultimately destroys its advancement with them by polluting its knowledge base with generative noninformation.
