There was also a crap load of shitty games pre installed I would say well over a dozen apps between those two. There was also a lot of #OEM #bloatware from #poco #xiaomi I used #canta from #fdroid and uninstalled an additional 37 apps between #Google and OEM bloatware. It needs #shizuku to be installed and that needs some #developer #options jiggery pokery to be done. But the end result is a phone that can handle all the #work stuff with excellent #batterylife /2
So I wanted a phone for work purposes (I am a contractor so was up to me), to put #companyportal and all the #ms #crap on and save my personal #fairphone from being tainted. I went for the #poco X8 pro Max as I ranked by battery capacity in my budget and this maxed out for both. So far in the few days I have been using it the battery life and standby has been very impressive much better than my #fairphone5 however, holy crap is it bundled with so much #bloatware /1

📱 Your Samsung Phone Slow? Blame the Bloatware.

Tired of a sluggish Samsung? Nixing its preinstalled apps can dramatically boost performance, stretch battery life, and clear out storage.

@davidgerard @AimeeMaroux Google’s offloading their #EnvironmentalImpact with #OnDeviceAI in #Chrome where every browser is now a 4GB micro-LLM; shifting load and performance onto the user.

This extra #Bloatware and #GreenWashing can be disabled by going to Settings->System and disabling on-device AI. I’m not certain about phones or tablets.

"...Google Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking. The file is named weights.bin. It lives in OptGuideOnDeviceModel. It is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. Chrome did not ask. Chrome does not surface it. If the user deletes it, Chrome re-downloads it."

Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. The pattern is identical to the Anthropic Claude Desktop case I wrote about last month, but the scale is between two and three orders of magnitude larger. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.
