Like many progressive rock fans of my generation, I’ve eagerly following #Rush ‘s return to the stage. We are being treated to live performances of songs that haven’t been played live in their entirety for many years, even by Rush.

So I’m watching the performance of 2112, singing along to The Temples of Syrinx and it stopped me in my tracks. I’m flooded with images of our world today, #bigtech, #socialmedia, #AI, #techbros with their #transhumanism and #longtermism.

Y'all, this article by Owen McGrann is so good that I am struggling not to quote the entire thing like one of those weird youtubers that stands in the corner of someone else's video and points. (Such an odd ouroboros.)

His philosophical points are well grounded, exquisitely argued, and provide that pleasurable tingle of neurons firing.

His premise is that akin to what #AI #slop has done to the internet, i.e. #deadInternet theory, they are poised to do to the #economy if we don't stop them. #DeadEconomy Theory, he names it.

Every now and then someone brings up #EffectiveAltruism, #TESCREAL, #RokosBasilisk, #Rationalism, or some other #Musk related nonsense. I ridicule it, or laugh, and move on. The whole evil god of Roko's Basilisk is so silly it doesn't feel worth writing about. But people started a whole cult over it and killed a bunch of people.

Since then I've been meaning to actually spend time tearing it down. So I think it's time to go kill a god. Fortunately it involves making fun of Elon Musk specifically and all the #AI-pilled #TechBros more generally, so that's nice I guess.

Also, I make the argument that we're all in a simulation that only exists to torture Elon Musk.
