I think for a first try I have something to show for. I am going to point out what I could have done better: should have pointed the camera higher so for to include the polestar. That way, I would have got ridden of the foreground which now gets a little bit too much attention.

Love the #startrails which came out better than expected, especially considering the weather was far from ideal and also considering this is the most light polluted area in Europe (or even in the world.)

Also, next time I am going to try to ’tame’ the excessive light of the manufacturing site across the river, but I may have regained a lost love which is #nightphotography.

This was more or less a bucket list for me and at #openmonumentendag I was finally able to visit it. The #Schans of #Lauwershoek is a schans (literally translated: ramp or skijump) that is part of the #Enceinte of #Antwerp, a ring of fortifications around the city.

Situated about 10km from the river #Scheldt, the Schans of Lauwershoek and #Landmolen were built as an extra protection for the forts of Steendorp and Haasdonk. The ramp pointed towards the enemy in such a manner that the Belgian military could attack the enemy from the back when they passed it.

The #waterbus is a #shuttle running the river #scheldt from the village of Hemiksem all the way down into the #harbour of #Antwerp covering 8 stops in total. Introduced by Port of Antwerp (the port authority) as a commuting alternative (Antwerp is one of the most congested cities in Europe) it is very popular amongst commuters and tourists alike.

Recently the Flemish Community took charge of the exploitation and to celebrate, the bridge could be visited during #openbedrijvendag a yearly event in Flanders where companies give an insight behind the scenes.

The (dutch) captain was very friendly and spoke passionately about every aspect of the boat. Very interesting!

Fairey Swordfish Mk III, Imperial War Museum, Duxford. This aircraft was built not by Fairey's but by Blackburn Aircraft Ltd. These were known, colloquially, as 'Blackfish' It is in the markings of No 119 Sqn, RAF which used these obsolescent biplanes on nocturnal sorties over the Scheldt estuary in 1945 to hunt down E-boats and minature submaries of the Kreigsmarine. Hence the all-black colour scheme and the radar carried under the fuselage. #RAF #Swordfish #FaireySwordfish #BlackburnAircraft #Scheldt #Kreigsmarine #1945 #eboat #submarine #biplane #WW2 #avgeek #imperialwarmuseum #Duxford #aviation #royalairforce #Radar
