I am also a little saddened by the comment to 'avoid wood boats’. Wood boats are sustainable and can last for a hundred years if maintained. My dad bought and sold three fishboats over the course of those 30 years. His first was a wooden boat, he then sold it for a fiberglass boat, then sold that one for a large 50ft wooden boat. I spent many hours scraping and painting that boat!

A logical outcome of massive consolidation of fishing licenses into just a few companies, owners and boats is... derelict boats.

Welcome to the West Coast of British Columbia. Where fishing used to be a livelihood (including for my own father for 30 years), but now it's the domain of corporations and wealthy multi-license owners.
