Island Spider – Harry’s adventure

This is the cover artwork for my story, Island Spider. It’s the story of Harry, a very hairy tropical that gets gets caught up in a bunch of bananas and is transported to a far away land. After surviving various adventures he needs to try and get home.Luckily for him there are some locals to help him do it.

🕷️😊 Researchers in #Uttarakhand, #India, spotted a spider resembling #Hawaii’s happy-face #spider during ant #biodiversity work.

#DNA confirmed it was a new species, *Theridion himalayana*, with distinct evolutionary origins. Both species evolved their patterns independently.

IT BEGINS

The first missing-sector orbweaver spiderling (_Zygiella_) of spring! I gasped and immediately got out my phone much to the bemusement of the neighbour who was putting out yard waste bags immediately in front of the fence the web was in.

Later (as I explained), this spider will start making webs with a distinctive slice cut out of them, with a signal line down the middle leading directly from the hub to its retreat.
