There was a bleached tree beneath the Himalayas, stripped by wind, still standing.

Looking at it, I understood, impermanence isn't sad, it's beautiful.

There are benches and then there are benches.

Never seen one like this, at charming roadside tea shop, with (shockingly) parking for a dozen vehicles

Among the more interesting furniture was this absolutely delight of a bench made from straight wooden branches, not sure the species , initially thought Chir Pine (Pinux roxburghii) but maybe not.

100+ Days around India (currently: Himalayan Edition): The Countdown Begins!

All of this year, I have waited and waited for this moment. I don’t think I was ever going to go through with it. But come April, there was a tiny shimmer of hope. Once I got my finances in place in order to fund this trip, I was eager to pick the right path and kept wondering how to start this trip.

I finally have a somewhat clear idea now. I want to travel to the Himalayas, and spend as much time there as I can. Of course, as always, I am doing this the solo way, which a lot of people will find odd. But I just love it. I have a childhood relationship with the mountains, as I studied in a boarding school for 2 years. I remember every memory of that lively time so vividly. Of course, as a child, I wasn’t completely happy with my experience. But looking back, I can clearly see that those early-life have toughened me up, so I can continue my journey in adulthood, as a free bird.

I am very eager to go on this life-changing adventure. I know that I have asked for it from the deepest ends of my heart. I am currently putting up at my sister’s home for the next 6 days, and come next weekend, I’ll pack a mini suitcase of all the essentials I need, and leave for the hills. I kind of decided to come back in the middle somewhere, and stay at my sister’s house for a week in order to save up more.

But, then, I won’t really get the proper feel of being on an adventure. So, I am going to revise the plan. I am going to go to the mountains next weekend, and try to stay there as possibly I can. I’ll learn so many things, if I do this right. I’ll be forced out of my comfort zone. I’ll be forced to resort to the local ways of living. Most importantly, I’ll avoid all touristy traps, and immerse myself in the local experiences.

…that is, whenever I can. I am not a thrill-seeker, by any means. I simply want to find non-touristy spots and soak in the peace for as long as I can, and all the while, I’ll continue to work from the mountains. Is that a dream, or what?

I’m planning to start this trip from Dharamshala, which is my first destination on the itinerary. More details to come soon.

I am setting a mere budget of INR 25,000 for a whole month, which includes food and accommodation. Wish me luck! More importantly, I am going to blog about this entire experience on this personal blog. I want to look back and applaud myself for taking on this epic adventure! It will open my mind to possibilities, and heal me in ways that I cannot imagine.

I think travelling for a weekend can do wonders for the soul. So imagine, what 100 days of travelling could do for the soul! I hope that the people reading this blog will follow along – not just for the updates, but for recommendations, and mostly, for the feel. I know that in the world of data, peace and joy have gone for a toss! But I guess…this little blog space is my way of reminding myself that it’ll all be good.

Onwards & Upwards
