Philosophers have called it out since long
Capitalism and Schizophrenia
__ authors Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari
#metalhealth
> capitalism, as a mode of production which flattens life into a universal exchange system (money as power) and makes connections between people, objects and emotions extremely volatile, furthers a schizophrenic tendency (not the actual diagnosis) which culminates in subjects/people destabilisation led by the profit motif of said mode of production. This has benefits (freeing) as well as oppressive consequences.

Just finished #ILikeMe - the #JohnCandy #documentary. For a guy growing up, glued to the TV in the late #80s and early #90s and loving his movies, it's rough to see behind the curtain. He seemed like a truly awesome person with way too much on his shoulders. A loveable pleaser trying to make the whole world happy. Clearly that took its toll.

The bit about the mud wrestling scene in #Stripes brought a tear to my eye - a scene I always thought was incredibly funny was in fact one of the scenes he hated doing the most. He was supposed to do it without a shirt, but couldn't.

In the documentary, they speak about how taking care of your #metalhealth wasn't really a thing back then. Asking how a friend was doing wasn't really something you did. We're in a better place now, but not quite there yet. Ask a friend how they're doing - not just to ask, but to get to know.

"The Commander in Chief Is Not Okay

Trump put on a disturbing show for America’s generals and admirals.

(. . .)

In 1973, an Air Force nuclear-missile officer named Harold Hering asked a simple question during a training session: 'How can I know that an order I receive to launch my missiles came from a sane president?' The question cost him his career. Military members are trained to execute orders, not question them. But today, both the man who can order the use of nuclear arms and the man who would likely verify such an order gave disgraceful and unnerving performances in Quantico. How many officers left the room asking themselves Major Hering’s question"
