have used, & enjoyed, #kdiff3 as my default graphical diff app in all my various distros, having first discovered it in my default boot, :archlinux: :kde: , years ago. it has been quite an up & down ride though, coz when it works it's excellent, but over the long haul it has broken many times, partly or completely. for the past week or two it's been pissing me off again. though it launches, both standalone & when invoked from #Dolphin, as soon as i click the icon to begin the manual diffing, its GUI freezes & has to be closed. trying several recent versions via downgrade hasn't helped, & reverting its config file to default also hasn't. i've finally lost all patience with it, so have removed it, & now my default diff app is #Meld... which is a pity given it's GTK. i still have #Kompare installed, but only use it for simple things, given it is barely configurable & flexible compared to the other two. sassen frassen rassen.

#Kdiff3 shows you all the differences between two (or three!) files in a nice little graphical interface. Yes, I know I can use diff at the command line (and sometimes I do!), but for large files with many, but not that many differences, this provides a really nice way to dig through them.

There is a @kde tool for everything. I just needed a diff tool and #KDiff3 was there for me. Despite the cryptic name it's actually exactly what I needed. #KDE #Linux
@e33io I tried #meld, but for me it didn't work as well as #kdiff3. With kdiff3 I find it easier to apply both local and remote changes (allowing to fix anomalies at once). Kdiff3 also shows clearer which conflicts it could resolve automatically, and for which conflicts it needs my help.
I like #kdiff3 as mergetool for #git, but when I install it on my debian system, it seems to dowload half of kde 😉
Does anybody have a suggestion for a mergetool that's more #xfce friendly?

Meld - Failed To Register

I use Meld very frequently and it just started bailing on me today. When I try to run meld from commandline, it stalls for some time and then exits with Failed to register: Timeout was reached. I d...
