Rocky Linux 10.2 arrives with post-quantum crypto, Wi-Fi 7 support, and Flatpak Firefox

The Bluetooth Battery Meter Gnome extension is really amazing. It’s made my CMF Buds Pro 2 even better and given me full control of them from my desktop. These were already punching way above their price class, but damn, my Bose QC Ultras have nothing on these.

It’s even given me control of my Apple AirPods Pro 2 buds that I just never use anymore. I had to go grab them from a drawer and give it a try since they were listed as supported and just wow.

My Bose headphones need an account and a phone app to adjust anything on them. It’s ridiculous that these others are now more open thanks to the open source community.

My $40 earbuds are more usable than my $200 earbuds. SMH.

The documentation is amazing (seriously, it’s great) and they offer a FlatPak app if you aren’t using Gnome.

I have a feeling that this is gonna piss everyone off.

Wie GamingOnLinux schreibt, verbietet Flathub fast alle KI gestützten Erreichungen. Ausnahmen gibt es nur für Projekte, die "matured, well-maintained" sind.

Flathub moves to ban nearly all apps and submissions made with generative AI

Flathub, one of the most popular ways to grab applications on Linux, has a newly updated generative AI policy - where it's pretty much all banned.

Last week, I amplified some FUD about flatpak, falsely accusing them of planning to do something bad.

Now, I am happy to share that they have done something good. Flathub previously had a ban on AI-generated pull requests, but it only applied to the PRs to submit an app to the store. They still allowed apps which are fully vibe-coded, just as long as the final pull request adding the app to Flathub was human-authored.

Now, that changes for the better.

If I understand the policy correctly, if an existing popular app suddenly starts adding AI code, it will
not be yanked from Flathub. However, new apps need to be free of any AI code, images, and documentation.

The policy doesn't say what happens to the various "apps" that are just front-ends for AI chatbots. Technically these might be allowed by the policy (since there's nothing saying they aren't allowed), but I would suspect almost all such "apps" have AI-generated code, and would therefore be banned anyways.

The new policy might not be as strict as I'd like, but it is a massive improvement, and it puts Flathub ahead of many distro package repositories.

Ah yes, 103 GB flatpak-builder cache/target dir, despite i have used `--force-clean`. I guess it just cleans the build-dir. Lol.
