Today I learnt the term Postprandial hypotension, which is a drop in blood pressure after eating (up to 2 hours). I have experienced this so many times but never knew the name. I get dizzy, light headed, feel like I will faint.
For me it is related to #Dysautomnia and #hypermobileEhlersDanlosSyndrome #hEDS more common in #Neurodivergent people

Hello! Thanks again for all of your incredible work.

I've just completed a week of nicotine patches (very low dose) for what the GP thinks is #LongCOVID however, I really don't think it is (symptoms started 2 days after Shingrix vaccine, so....). Anyway, the patches didn't do anything for me (maybe b/c I don't have LC?) but I've read they do work for others for #dysautomnia #autonomic issues.

So, I've finally (finally!) found a doctor who has listened and appears to be on the right track.

After 12months of symptoms that are, at times, very difficult to live with, I appear to have a diagnosis, of sorts.

I have the #autonomic (#dysautomnia really) symptoms of #LongCOVID despite NOT having had #COVID19 (to my knowledge). Having a COVID vaccine followed by a shingles vaccine one week later was the trigger.

The treatment?

Nicotine patches! Worth a try!

Is the post-COVID-19 syndrome a severe impairment of acetylcholine-orchestrated neuromodulation that responds to nicotine administration? - PubMed

Following a SARS-CoV-2 infection, many individuals suffer from post-COVID-19 syndrome. It makes them unable to proceed with common everyday activities due to weakness, memory lapses, pain, dyspnea and other unspecific physical complaints. Several investigators could demonstrate that the SARS-CoV-2 r …

We have some excellent GF beer here in the PNW but no GF + non-alcoholic. There are only a handful of brewed without gluten (not gluten-removed) non-alcoholic beers ✨globally✨.

I sprung for a shipment of Go Brewing’s (Naperville, IL) Freedom Cali Pale and absolutely love it. Hoppy, malty (without barley), fresh and refreshing. Brewed w/o gluten, & they mitigate cross-contamination risk using a gluten-removing enzyme. So rad.

Well, I have confirmation that I am hyper mobile. And a referral to an allergist/immunologist who knows about MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) which is suspected. My self reported vitals imply POTS but an actual tilt table is needed. (To be scheduled). Doc has had bad luck with my insurance (through the hospital system I work for) but I will pay out of pocket and fight for reimbursement if I have to. #dysautomnia #spoonielife #hypermobility
That is the most thorough medical history I’ve ever had taken. Hopeful for this appointment. Glad they warned me it would be a long one. (Med student took the history, still waiting to see the doc) #dysautomnia #spoonielife

Apparent risks of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome diagnoses after COVID-19 vaccination and SARS-Cov-2 Infection

Nature Cardiovascular Research (2022)

https://www.nature.com/articles/s44161-022-00177-8

"Our results identify a possible association between COVID-19 vaccination and incidence of POTS. Notwithstanding the probable low incidence of POTS after COVID-19 vaccination, particularly when compared to SARS-Cov-2 post-infection odds, which were five times higher, our results suggest that further studies are needed to investigate the incidence and etiology of POTS occurring after COVID-19 vaccination."

Apparent risks of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome diagnoses after COVID-19 vaccination and SARS-Cov-2 Infection - Nature Cardiovascular Research

Through analysis of the electronic medical records of 284,592 vaccinated patients, using a sequence–symmetry analysis, Kwan et al. show that the risk of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is increased after COVID-19 vaccination compared to a 90-day control period before exposure—although 5.35 times lower than the risk of POTS occurrence after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

I'm hitting my isolation limit though, so getting by on cognitive dissonance and sometimes asking people to test before hanging out. But often end up taking more risk than I'd like if I actually thought about the specifics. It's-Not great.

I worry that I'm at high risk of long covid that would cause dysautonomia in ways that would make my day to day much harder and me possibly more disabled. But of course the data isn't in yet. #COVID19 #dysautomnia #disability

I had a fasting blood test this morning.

Did not see my preferred phlebotomists. Will not make that mistake again.

Because I have dysautomnia, POTS, and I’m generally a fainter and not a morning person anyway, fasting blood tests are not fun. This one was made much worse when the phlebotomist decided that my pallor was caused by my N95 mask and tried to remove it!
“You don’t need that, dear, I have mine on.”

I am very tired of this attitude.
