RT by @TomasZdechovsky: 🚴‍♀️ Europe is connected by more than roads and railways — it is also connected by thousands of kilometres of cycling routes.

This map reveals something remarkable: across Europe, cycling infrastructure has become an essential part of modern mobility. From the Netherlands and Denmark to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and beyond, millions of Europeans can travel, commute and explore their regions on safe and well-marked cycling networks.

Investing in cycling is not just about leisure. It means healthier citizens, cleaner air, less congestion, stronger local tourism and more sustainable transport systems. Every kilometre of a cycling path is an investment in quality of life and in Europe’s green future.

The challenge now is to continue closing the gaps, connecting regions across borders and ensuring that cycling becomes a realistic option for people of all ages, whether in cities or rural areas.

Europe grows stronger when we build connections that are sustainable, accessible and good for people’s health.

🚲 Which European country do you think has the best cycling infrastructure?

Frontage roads can be the missing link in your city's bike network. Nobody's looking at them.

Every city has gaps where cyclists are forced onto major arterials. Many of those gaps run right next to frontage roads. Lower volume. Parallel to destinations. Existing right-of-way. Frontage roads and bike network planning rarely happen in the same conversation. They should.

Dublin City Council runs regular surveys on what you think of your city. If you'd like to nag them for more cycling infrastructure and active travel infrastructure generally join here https://dublincc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dchnFv0xPVgFAou?camprefid=ydyv6925

These photos illustrate why cycle lanes need to be physically separate from where cars drive.

If more Red Counties and States stayed honestly focused on economics, housing, healthcare, and quality of life mobility and access projects like this we could all breathe easier.

Greenville County, South Carolina’s “Freeway for Bikes”, primarily the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, a popular 28-mile greenway connecting Travelers Rest to Greenville along a former railroad corridor, but the county also develops local bike routes, like the one connecting White Horse Road to downtown for commuters, fostering a strong cycling culture with trails, bike lanes, and support from organizations like Bike Walk Greenville.

I went out for some supplies today. Assen is quite good at clearing cycle-paths from snow, but it's not perfect.

The weather forecast today was a bit gloomy so there was no #assenliggers group ride. But after walking the dogs and shovelling snow outside our home I went out for a short spin anyway, and it was actually really nice.
