Every city has gaps where cyclists are forced onto major arterials. Many of those gaps run right next to frontage roads. Lower volume. Parallel to destinations. Existing right-of-way. Frontage roads and bike network planning rarely happen in the same conversation. They should.

Utility corridors run under your city for miles with no cars. There's your trail.

Transmission lines, gas pipelines, water trunk lines - wide easements, cleared land, maintenance access. Coordination with utility owners is the hard part, but it has been done in dozens of cities. The physical opportunity is already there. It just needs a trail on it.
