While at the Koko Crater Botanical Garden, I often saw people climbing up the Koko Head Trail.

That trail is a 1,000+ railway tie steps climb. It does provide a fabulous vantage for views of Oahu.

As you can see, it is teeming with people. Much unlike the botanical garden. I ran in to few people during the two hours I spent along the garden paths.

Some of the trees you discover in the Africa and Madagascar sections of the Koko Crater Botanical Garden on Oahu.

There is a 2-mile circular path through the gardens. It is an easy walking path, with some small inclines.

It was fascinating to see so many unusual species of plants throughout the gardens. It sometimes felt like I was walking on another world.

Koko Crater Botanical Garden on Oahu does have a grove of plumeria (like those we showed you in the previous post).

However, the garden is better known for its cacti and succulent gardens.

It is quite unexpected to see these cacti thriving in a tropical climate in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

But, that is what makes Koko Crater unique among the five botanical gardens administered by the City and County of Honolulu.
