Woonstrijd informatie en actiedag

De wooncrisis raakt steeds meer mensen. Ook in de wijken zien we wat dat betekent:

Schimmel in woningen, maar ook onzekerheid over renovaties, mensen die hun buurt moeten verlaten en niet weten of ze kunnen terugkeren.

Tegelijk gebeurt er veel in de wijk, maar vaak nog los van elkaar. Daarom organiseren we deze bijeenkomst. Niet alleen om verhalen te delen, maar om elkaar te vinden en te kijken hoe we samen sterker kunnen staan.

Want als we ons organiseren, hebben we wél macht.

Kunst- en cultuurhistoricus Michel Didier, opgegroeid in de Pijp, presenteert zijn recente publicatie ‘De Cultuuratlas van de Pijp’. Eind negentiende eeuw ontwikkelde de destijds nieuwe wijk De Pijp zich tot een centrum voor kunstenaars, schrijvers en musici. Deze nieuwste Cultuuratlas van Amsterdam geeft een beeld van de geschiedenis van De Pijp en de betekenis van onder andere de Rijksakademie (nu De Ateliers) voor het culturele klimaat in de wijk. Er is in de Pijp relatief weinig gesloopt, zodat je een historische tocht kunt maken langs woonhuizen en ateliers waar de kunstenaars woonden en werkten.  

Lex Banning van Made in de Pijp zal aanvullend een betoog houden over Vereniging Ambachten Made in de Pijp en Broedplaats Lutmaak.

Wij nodigen buurtbewoners, kunstenaars, culturele ondernemers uit om na de presentatie vragen te stellen en/of te reflecteren op het actuele culturele klimaat in de Pijp.

Surprise gig! Moor Mother plays live at OCCII (Amsterdam), backed up by her musical soulmates Aquiles Navarro and Olof Melander! Expect the unexpected: new work, improv, and a selection from Moor Mother’s rich oeuvre.

Vocalist and poet Camae Ayewa aka Moor Mother describes her music as “low fi/dark rap/blk girl blues/witch rap/coffee shop riot gurl songs/black ghost songs”. Her vast discography meanders adventurously between jazz, hip hop, and noise, with records under her own name, under the moniker 700 Bliss (with DJ Haram), or in collaborations with Irreversible Entanglements, the avant-metal band SUMAC, and many more.

Recently, Moor Mother has moved toward a more melodic and song-oriented approach, while still blending spoken word, experimental jazz, electronics, and radical poetry. Her album Jazz Codes (2023) draws from her poetry project and pays tribute to jazz visionaries such as Woody Shaw and Mary Lou Williams, combining layered vocals, atmospheric production, and free-form improvisation in collaboration with Swedish producer Olof Melander. On her latest full length album The Great Bailout (2024), she expands this cinematic and haunting sound into a powerful meditation on colonial history, displacement, and collective memory, moving between tenderness, noise, jazz abstraction, and poetic storytelling.

Internationally renowned trumpeter Aquiles Navarro — also her bandmate in Irreversible Entanglements and multi-faceted artist in his own right— contributed to Jazz Codes as well as Circuit City and Analog Fluids Of Sonic Black Holes, and later collaborated with Melander on the album Tangles (2024).

Since its founding in 2017, SITP has organized improvised music concerts that encourage creativity across genres and disciplines. Over the years, it has expanded through collaborations with venues and festivals in the Netherlands and abroad, including BIMHUIS, Paradiso, and WORM.

Een wekelijks terugkerend feest!

Elke donderdagavond kan je meedoen aan de Oktopedians. Het is een open jazzworkshop, waar zowel beginnende als gevorderde muzikanten samen spelen. Alle muziekinstrumenten en alle leeftijden zijn welkom. Er wordt veel gesoleerd. Heb je vragen over de muziektheoretische kant, dan kan je hier het antwoord halen. Maar de nadruk ligt op de praktische kant van het musiceren. Ben je een beginner? Schroom dan niet om bij ons binnen te stappen... In no time kan je al wat leuks spelen.
