Had a rare moment of suitably snappy comeback earlier today.

As I passed an older couple shopping in an aisle, the woman said "Oh, cute!" and then stammered a bit as she tried to get the man's attention from the shelves and towards me, as she continued with "That thing, I mean. That's cute."

Me: "Oh, that's okay, I'm cute, too." 😀

She looked slightly mortified and then relieved when I continued, "Seriously though, thanks. I just finished this design a few weeks ago and I'm rather happy with it."

#Brick Thing one year in...

Getting #moss established generally around the base.

Front middle is a compact ajuga, that may be too spready, but time will tell...

Middle left is Sicilian #mint, which is also quite aggressive but v. low growing.

Middle right, in the cavity, is a small harts tongue #fern, that's looking happy there...

On the top, I went with a #cotoneaster in the end. I wanted a tree rather than a shrub, but in a year I didn't get a suitable seedling, so cotoneaster it is, and to be fair it will #bonsai well. Long term plan is, as it grows, to lower the soil level in the tower and develop some exposed, #gnarly #roots

There's also stonecrop (front right) and a small rosetted house leek (out of sight round the back...)

1. Roach Minimus' GCSEs are over 🎉 ending the second period of "one kid doing A levels and another doing GCSEs". It will be fun to watch them unwind. In a strong statement of confidence and faith, I've just guided Minimus to store their course notes in the shed until we're certain there's no need for resits 😆 #PracticalDad

2. Roach Minor did a massive and delicious carrot cake for <family> birthday.

It’s #spring and the #flowers are blooming, which means that #Bees have got a good supply of food. They particularly seem to like the small flowers of the #Cotoneaster plant in the front #garden and throughout a #SunnyDay, there are always several dozen on it.
