i arrived at the show at almost exactly 11:00 (the start time), and it was still absolutely packed. there was a group from a bus tour amongst the crowd. it's exciting to see the Toronto show have such good attendance, though it was a little overwhelming to navigate the sales area. good trees and pots sell out quickly.

i picked up two nearly-identical little pots for 20 bucks each, which i considered a bargain, given the quality. i'm always on the lookout for small pots...i have some little trees i plan on swapping out of their cheap mass produced pots soon.

i am also fond of creative accent plants (kusamono / shitakusa). you can do a lot with a little, in a pretty short time. these chives complemented the funky pot nicely.

this flowering quince is more remarkable for the flowers than the tree's structure, but blooms are kind of what the spring show is for, so i'm all for it

i am always a sucker for the crabapples

although this wisteria was much smaller, i think it had a nice shape, especially with the flowers cascading down.

i also finally got to pick up my copy of the commemorative photobook from the 60th anniversary show (which i also attended, in 2024). this book was a preorder and i'm not sure if copies are still available to the general public. it includes professional photos of each tree, including information about the tree, pot, stand, and bonsai artist. it was well worth the wait.

at the Toronto bonsai club show...this Korean hornbeam was a standout.

A glimmer of hope for the maple bonsai after re-potting... a tiny green leaf bud.

this weekend is the #Toronto #Bonsai Society spring show. tickets are a reasonable 10 bucks, and you'll get to see some high quality trees, sometimes including famous trees like Nick Lenz's 'Penelope' larch. plus there is a large sales area that includes trees, pots, tools, and accessories.

the show runs Saturday and Sunday. the location is the Toronto Botanical Garden, which has nice gardens and grounds to explore after the show.
