Spring is finally truly ongoing! And that means we have been hard at work to finish what we started during autumn.
We loved the place we moved to and we really loved the climbing plant. Our initial goal was to cut it down to size and get it under control. Unfortunately we found out that this lovely climber (celastrus orbiculatus - asian bittersweet) is highly invasive, redlisted and outlawed in our contry. So we began the tedious work of cutting it down during autumn and pulling lots of roots to weaken it. And now when spring arrived we started pulling all the tiles back, pulling roots as we went and then redoing the tiles.
We also increased the little planting plot inside our fenced area and we are planning to grow some crops there, like potatoes, carrots, maybe some lettuce, onions, spinach. Well see.
On the outside of the fence, where rhe bittersweet was planted originally, we had to remove the collapsed rock outline along with alot of twigs etc. Then we dug out the four stumps/mother plants, rescued a bunch of flowers that we believe are some type of tulip. We pulled roots as we dug down about half a meter the in the original flower bed and "fluffed" the soil before redoing the rock-outline and lastly we sowed alot of wilder flower seeds at random and watered the area.
Two more things to get done and then we can consider most of the work done for now.
We are going to keep an eye out for shoots from hidden pieces of roots we haven't been able to get out, but the prognosis seems good so far. Snip them if they appear and make sure the plant can't regrow.
In total so far we have 3 large trashbags with just rootsystem and about 7 with the branches and whips. All going to the recycling center for burning during next week.
Feeling proud 🥰
