Steam, stodge – and so much suet: I made 10 endangered British puddings. Are any actually worth saving?

With many classic puddings on the verge of dying out, I set out to discover which should be back on the menu. It was a journey through some of the heaviest desserts in history

Full of heavy cold, and needing comfort food, found a sachet of strawberry Angel Delight in the cupboard, ready to make up with milk. For a British child of the 1970s and 1980s this stuff is a delight. Surprisingly low cal and fat, but best not talk about the sugar! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Delight #Food #BritishFood #1970s #1980s #70s #80s

New #blog post: Pickled Onion Review #7: Baxters - A Tale of Two Silverskins
The search for a reliable, everyday pickled onion continues. I had hopes for Baxters, but it was a tale of two silverskins. One might even say it was a journey to disappointment. My full thoughts on the matter are now online.

I see that another (much more popular) youtuber has made a video about the spotted dick pudding. Now, I wish to assure you in no uncertain terms that I have nothing but the utmost respect for Mister Max Miller, but just putting it out there that in this video from last August, I am significantly less precious about dick jokes:

Solo-parenting #BritishFood #KidsFood rejections that I cooked this week:

❌ Sausage in a bun

❌ Steak pie (& chips)

❌ Garam masala chicken thighs (admittedly this was probably too spicy for them)

❌ Alphabet spaghetti in tomato sauce (partial success, elder merely rejected having it on toast)

✅ As I expected, higher success on #JapaneseFood they’re used too, like katsudon (even when imperfectly prepared). So fingers crossed for the salmon dish tomorrow!

My Children did not eat the M&S steak pie for dinner 🥧 #BritishFood #ChildhoodFood

Youngest refused outright. Eldest liked the meat, and the pastry, but said they didn’t go together, and didn’t like the gravy.

They seemed horrified at the idea of Fish & Chip shops serving chips and gravy 🤣🇬🇧
