#Movies

The list of my most recently watched movies;

Beekeeper (2024)
Twisters (2024)
Karate Kid -- the #JackieChan #JadenSmith re-make (2010)
Mr. Majestic (1974)
John Wick 4 (2023)

There are few movies that I've never seen before but the Karate Kid (2010) & Mr. Majestic were 2 of them.

The Chan/Smith version of KK followed the same script. The only reason I watched it was because of Jackie. Jaden played the same whiny kid he does in the 3 other movies of any worth that his parents got him into (Pursuit of Happiness, The Day the Earth Stood Still & After Earth) & thank "god" that his father is no longer popular & cannot get Jaden into any more movies. I'd give it a 4 as a movie & 6 just for Jackie.

Mr. Majestic is typical #CharlesBronson fare. I'd give it a 6 for basic entertainment value if you like Bronson & the genre of movies that he made popular.

Beekeeper, Twisters & John Wick 4 are movies that I've seen many times and, as such are minimally entertaining to me, which warrant a 6 too.

#Movies #DVDs

My most recent DVD purchases:

Anora (2024) - Best Picture 2024
Black Bag (2025)
Last Breath (2025)
Nosterafu (2024)
Presence (2024)
Great Divide (2024)

And the movies currently on my DVD "to buy" list:

A Complete Unknown (2024)
Queer (2024)
Wedding Banquet (2025)
Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning (2025)
Sinners (2025)
Working Man (2025)

#SFGiants #MLB

The Giants score 1 run in the top of the 9th but it's too little too late. 🤷‍♂️

Giants lose the 2nd game in a row to the #Tigers.

Unfortunately, the #Dodgers are leading the #Guardians 9-3 in the bottom of the 9th & are a lock to win that game.

The #Padres' game is still yet to start but if they win, they'll remain 2 games behind the Dodgers to take 2nd place in the NL West for themselves, dropping the Giants 1 game behind them and into 3rd place 3 games behind the Dodgers in 1st.

Hope this isn't a trend but the #JuneSwoon for the Giants is pending.

#FineDining #FoodCritics #CelebrityChefs

Here's a very interesting article that dives deep into the recesses of the minds of celebrity chefs & food critics.

The tension between those roles & the level of neuroses of each is evident in this "cover her ass' article about this food critic's rare interaction with a world famous chef happened at #TheFrenchLaundry.

PS: I've eaten at the The French Laundry before & frankly wasn't all that impressed -- probably because I'm not a celebrity, rich nor a food critic.

And I also do not think that the chef will be happy with this "non-review" review of him & his resturant. 🤷‍♂️

#SFGiants #MLB

Another poor start for Webb who just gave up a run in the 1st & another in the 2nd to give the #Tigers a 0-2 lead on 4 hits including a HR and the Tigers are still up with 1 on & 1 out in the bottom of the 2nd. 🤦‍♂️

Update: Webb gave up another run in the bottom of the 3rd on a triple & single and . So the Tigers now lead 0-3 going into the top of the 7th.

It's not like Webb has thrown an entirely bad game because he got 10Ks in 6 innings BUT he's given up 7 hits (1 a solo HR, a triple, 2 doubles & 3 singles plus a walk) on 104 pitches thrown (64 for strikes). 🤷‍♂️

But on the other side of the plate, the Giants are doing absolutely nothing to get hits & score runs. ☹️

They failed to score with runners on 1st & 2nd in the top of the 1st & have gotten only 2 hits & a walk in 6 innings & left them all on base and have struck out 8 times. 🤦‍♂️

You can't win if you can't score runs. 🤷‍♂️

#Jade #Diamond #WeddingRings

Apparently, some newly weds are choosing jade for their wedding rings now.

I've inherited a lot of jade from my parents. My father always wore jade as his wedding ring. My mother wore a diamond wedding & engagement ring but she had a lot of other jade jewelry.

I had a jade & diamond wedding ring that I wore when I was married too but haven't worn any rings or other jewelry for a long time

The quality of jade (at least green jade) is measured by the deepness & uniformity of the color & the best jade is now extremely expensive.

The quality of the jade pictured in the article linked below appears to be very poor (& hence more affordable).🤷‍♂️

Reminder -- #covid vaccines are semi-protective, meaning that they are extremely effective at reducing the risk of death and severe illness, while also being less effective at preventing infection/transmission and #LongCovid .

That means that:

(1) vaccines are PART of a prevention strategy, not the whole strategy, so masks rated to prevent airborne transmission, regular accurate testing, and air cleaning are still cruicial tools everyone should be using; and

(2) this is why it is even more important that we keep community vaccination levels as high as we can get them, and to vaccinate at a frequency that matches how long the vaccines are semi-protective for (4-6 months) with updated formulations based on current circulating variants vs variants that long ago faded away.

None of the above is informing anything being done or decided by the current fuckleheads in charge of public health.

#SF #GreatHighway #SunsetDunes

Below is a link to an article on the NYT about the "controversy" about the closure of The Great Highway.

I don't live in SF anymore but. when I did, I often used the Great Highway to get to Hwy 1 &/or Skyline Blvd to drive south to the peninsula in order to avoid 19th Ave ( nee Hwy 1).

Back in the 60's you could drive the entire length of 19th Ave from Lincoln all the way past SF State w/o stopping because the signals were timed (they still are, I believe) & traffic was light enough so that you could make all of the lights without stopping.

Those days are long gone!

If I still lived in The City, I'd do everything possible to avoid driving on 19th Ave.

Sunset is an alternative but in order to get to/from there you have to drive thru Golden Gate Park &/or thru the Outer Richmond or Outer Sunset.

So, traffic congestion can only get worse on 19th, Sunset Blvd & the surrounding areas & I'm really glad that I don't live in SF anymore.

This California Highway Is Now a Park. The Cars Are Gone, but Not the Anger.

The transformation of a two-mile stretch of San Francisco’s Great Highway into a pedestrian promenade has set off a clash over the city’s anti-car culture.
