If i can slip in a quick PSA while my typically sleepy notifications are exploding, these are all very annoying things to say and you might want to reconsider whether they're worth ever saying in a reply directed at someone else - who are they for? what do they add?
{thing} itself is people being surprised at {thing}": unless the person is saying "i am surprised by this" they are likely not surprised by the thing. just saying something doesn't mean you are surprised by it, and people talking about something usually have paid attention to it before the moment you are encountering them. this is pointless hostility to people who are saying something you supposedly agree with so much that you think everyone should already believe it{thing}"{thing} might be bad, but {alternative/unrelated, unmentioned, non-mutually exclusive thing} is even worse": multiple things can be bad at the same time and not mentioning something does not mean i don't think it's also bad{thing} is bad also think {alternative/unrelated, unmentioned thing} is good": closely related to the above, just because you have binarized your thinking does not mean everyone else has.anyway if the mental image you are conjuring for your interlocuters positions them as always knowing less than you by default, that might be something to look into in yourself!
reminder that anthropic ran (and is still running) an ENTIRE AD CAMPAIGN around "Claude code is written with claude code" and after the source was leaked that has got to be the funniest self-own in the history of advertising because OH BOY IT SHOWS.
it's hard to get across in microblogging format just how big of a dumpster fire this thing is, because what it "looks like" is "everything is done a dozen times in a dozen different ways, and everything is just sort of jammed in anywhere. to the degree there is any kind of coherent structure like 'tools' and 'agents' and whatnot, it's entirely undercut by how the entire rest of the code might have written in some special condition that completely changes how any such thing might work." I have read a lot of unrefined, straight from the LLM code, and Claude code is a masterclass in exactly what you get when you do that - an incomprehensible mess.

The #depaving groups reclaiming #UrbanGreenSpace
by Jennifer Cole, Mar 21, 2026
"It took two years, but finally, in 2025, Jean Norwood’s dream of turning the parking lot at #MorningstarMissionary Baptist Church in #PortlandOR, into a play area for children and a #FoodGarden with #FruitTrees came true. Working with Norwood to bring her vision to reality was #DepavePortland. Since 2008, the Portland-based nonprofit has been digging up paved surfaces, freeing the trapped soil underneath and #regreening the newly reclaimed space.
"There are an estimated 2 billion parking places in the United States, an area comparable in size to the entire state of Vermont. That figure does not include #sidewalks, schoolyards or other paved surfaces, which, along with #CarParks, trap heat, intensifying the urban #HeatIsland effect in some cases by up to 10 degrees Fahrenheit compared with surrounding areas. '#Asphalt makes your space hotter in the summertime, and colder in the wintertime,' Norwood says.
"When asphalt is removed and the soil beneath is exposed, those dynamics begin to reverse. The ground can absorb and store #carbon, and #rainwater is able to filter into the soil rather than running off into sewers. #Trees and #gardens can be planted that provide shade and a #habitat is created for #birds, #insects and other #wildlife.
"This was Norwood’s dream for the parking lot at Morningstar. Going from concrete to fruit trees, though, takes patience. 'First,' she says, 'there was about six months of planning and submitting requests for permitting.'
"Depave guided Norwood and the church through all of it, even seeking out grants to help cover costs. When it came time to depave the parking lot, volunteers recruited by Depave used crowbars, shovels, bare hands and wheelbarrows to lift out the pavement and daylight the soil beneath. Depave also worked with Morningstar on finding contractors to build the play area and raised #GardenBeds, and on choosing the plants for each newly #regreened space. It’s a process Depave has perfected at more than 82 sites across Portland."

Mastodon has taken the strategic decision not to accept venture capital investments for growth, but rather restructure to a European non-profit organisation. 👏
My sister is having a hard time sleeping at night.
So if you live in a red or swing state, please write or call your congresspeople to advocate for reinstatement of staff and funds to the NIH and CSC.
My sister and I appreciate for your advocacy – for science!

...the chemical waste from their lab in a safe manner, instead of flushing it into the drain. They have buildings that are expensive to power due to the presence of fume hoods, lots of machinery and freezers and equipment.
They are all working long hours for a cause that they believe in.
