I took my client out to Welland Community Orchard & wheeled him around the community orchard park. He had never been there before & loved seeing everything there. It was a lovely post-lunch outing.

Final carrot harvest of the year (minus the several we kept eating), had to break through a frozen layer of soil today. Rest will stay for seeding next year. Thing 1 made an amazing veggie stir-fry with most of them 😋

Silver #cockscomb - very similar to amaranth.
Originally native to #India - it was saved from extinction through #cultivation because of its religious significance. #Indian , #Burmese & #Chinese gardeners usually plant them by temples.

Cockscomb is an #EdiblePlant & a pretty #grain alternative. Often consumed in southern #Nigeria, #Benin , #Congo & #Indonesia. Young stems & flowers are #edible. Seeds are also edible are referred to as #pseudocereals.
