I know that politics, religion, and current events are usually everybody's favorite discussions these days, but for this server let's try to focus on the positive things out there and use Content Warnings and hashtags when applicable to make it easy for people to filter out the stuff they're trying to get away from.

I don't mind people talking about divisive or heavy topics, but for the really negative stuff let's give people the option to not see it here.

Thanks! 🤗

I’m conscious that I haven’t done an #introduction on here, so here goes. I write weekly restaurant reviews in and around my hometown in #rdguk although I do make it over to #bristol and some other interesting parts of the U.K. too. I try to focus on independent places and I spend my own money, so no freebies. I also post about all sorts of other stuff, and I’m trying not to moan about politics so much! #restaurantblogger #foodblog
People grumbling that #Mastodon is slow at the moment... You just turned up with 1 million people in a tiny, rural village and you're complaining there's a queue to get into the only tearoom, which is run by gay pensioners Babs & Maureen as a retirement hobby on Mons-Weds. Relax!

A new restaurant review - this week I try Kolkatan food on the outskirts of #rdguk - is Adda Hut worth going a little out of your way for? #restaurantreviews #foodblogger

I like how Mastodon breaks social media. A like button is the secret sauce that controls the masses. But on Mastodon, the like button is just a “send my complements to the chef.” It serves no other purpose.
First time this week I’ve managed to get out #trailrunning. A lovely #autumn #run through my favourite #woods in #berkshire

Seriously though, fedi was *built* by furries, trans and queer folk, disabled neurodivergent people.

This is *the reason* the culture here is what it is. Why CWs are a thing. Why image descriptions are a thing. Why privacy matters here. Why moderation tools not only exist, but are usable — and used.

If you had joined and asked yourself "wow, how come this place is so chill and kinda… nice?" — that's thanks to all the nice people from communities some people call "weird".

So #KeepFediWeird.

So... this morning I had more notifications waiting for me in Mastodon than I did in Twitter. And all the notifications on Twitter are people telling me Mastodon will never get enough users to matter.
The upside to there being no trains from where I live is that I get a lift with my wife and daughter. The downside is they’ve started to listen to Xmas music. Today it’s Lea Michelle and Darren Kriss, and I have some feelings about this.

Love these words on #kindness from Vasily Grossman in Life and Fate, written as he reflects on his experience of Nazism and Stalinism

Human history is not the battle of good struggling to overcome evil. It is the battle of a great evil struggling to crush a small kernel of human kindness. But if what is human in human beings has not been destroyed even now, then evil will never conquer.
