@inarticulatequilter I am sure there are. They're just tricky to spot sometimes.

"My husband complains about the cold," the man said. "Can you teach me a spell to keep him warm?"

"I can teach you to bind hair into a net to catch heat," the wizard said, "using arcane counting and a pair of fine wands."

After a while, the man said "Isn't this knitting?"

"This, too, is magic."

I found out about my neurodivergence only a year ago. A massive reality check.

I'm realizing I have almost zero social skills - just manual protocols.
Email is my asynchronous heaven.
Pure data, no pressure.

But 1-1/group meetings... Sensory torture. Calculating facial expressions and body language feels like a manual social engineering project that drains my "inner battery".
While others "sync up", my brain overloads just to look functional.

This is why Mastodon is my safe space - I can be myself here. I'm like at home here.

Have you noticed anything similar?

You're not alone.
You're normal! It's just harder, and you pay a much higher price for it.

I love the quilted lounge pants, what a great idea! I am also one who loves lounging under quilts most of all.

Remember, when something in the news upsets you, you are *not obligated* to spend the next hour hunched over your phone reading live updates and social media hot takes.

You *can* stay informed without succumbing to this urge -- an urge deliberately conditioned into us for decades by the 24-hour news cycle and exploitative for-profit social media.

Step away from your screens, let your psyche absorb the blow, and read about it in a newspaper tomorrow morning if you like. You have permission!

@justmichelle This is incredible!

I saw a video about neurodivergent burnout and the part where she said "any task that takes desicion making, or any kind of labor is not rest" kind of hit hard.

That is why watching show you have already seen, reading book you've read, and doing task that requires zero thinking or you can do without getting stuck in the beginning IS rest.

And not everyone has the time to do full reset so these things keep many of us afloat.
