I support this and 100% agree with it!

新年快乐!马年大吉!马上开心!
Happy Year of the Fire Horse!
For the occasion, I made a little "study" on the character 馬, which means horse.
Read here https://art.echoingfrog.ca/year-of-the-fire-horse-triptych for a meaning of the piece.

New poem, inspired by the clear cutting in Stanley Park, Vancouver, and more generally all the destruction happening in the world right now. My way of grieving I guess.

And if you want to see what's happening in the park, I posted a video (it's on Instagram though) : https://www.instagram.com/reel/DUxDw9IDk58/

The Grieving Forest

Inspired by Nature series #4 I can hear you cry Underneath your bark My heart ripped out As they pull your roots In...

Attended a #SealCarving class. I chose the characters, our teacher Robin Loeng designed it in bronzeware script, an ancient #Chinese writing style that was used on bronze vessels for important historical records and spiritual ceremonies, and then I carved it myself. It was really meditative, just like #calligraphy is. I'm looking forward to trying again in the future.
畅想 (chàngxiǎng) means to give free rein to one's #imagination, to think imaginatively, to envision freely.

In the past few days I’ve seen talk about RAM prices shooting up due to demand from big datacenters.

Today I read that a historic brand like Crucial - I own plenty of their hardware, including SSDs - is dropping consumer products to focus on gear for those same datacenters.
The result (or maybe the intention?) is to push people away from self hosting, undermine the OwnYourData idea and make everyone depend on huge datacenters for life.

So much for owning your data.
So much for decentralisation.

Because taking down one giant datacenter is far easier than taking down thousands or millions of individual nodes.

Friends and colleagues, don’t trade your freedom for a bit of convenience. Once you give it away, getting it back is very hard.

Always Own Your Data.

Little fun challenge!
First attempt at writing the biáng character, which is a type of noodle in Shaanxi cuisine. Deemed the most complex "genuine" Chinese character with its 58 strokes. Full of flaws but not too bad for a first I guess.
Next challenge: an "artistic" character made of 172 strokes. Wish me luck!

Been working on this one for a long time already, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the process.

Vancouver Public Library, taking your knowledge to greater heights.

One of my fav places. I just recently rediscovered the joy of spending time there after not going for so long.
They offer so many great free events and workshops. And I love hanging out there to work on my creative projects.
Public libraries are the best! And the VPL central branch is an architectural gem on top of it!
