I’m so jealous of people who can go to bed and immediately fall asleep. Is nothing on your mind at all?
@cmconseils I have plenty of stuff on my mind, but I find if I listen to the radio then I fall asleep quickly, as I'm then thinking about what's on the radio rather than what's on my mind.

@cmconseils

I usually don't fall asleep for hours, but it has nothing to do with things being on my mind. I just don't fall asleep easily.

@billyjoebowers @cmconseils Usually if I get sleepy during the day I can fall asleep quickly, but at night it's impossible, even when I have normal-ish sleep schedule, and it seems nothing can change that

@cmconseils I use to sleep easily at night but I suffer from severe insomnia almost every day. I wake up to pee and I don't sleep anymore.

My mind tends to focus on what I have to do next day or things I'm struggling with and it goes in an infinite loop :/

@cmconseils I do OK going to sleep, but I'm envious of folk who can nap during the day. That looks awesome but my brain won't accept it for a second.
Anni di sonno arretrato alle spalle...
@cmconseils This is my wife. It baffles me every time, even 7 years on.
@cmconseils I call these people psychopaths. What’s wrong with them?!? 😱
@cmconseils you need the military method 🫑πŸ€ͺ https://bigthink.com/neuropsych/military-method-sleep/
The 5-step "military method" for falling asleep in minutes

When you have to spend your days in stressful, loud, and dangerous conditions, you learn a thing or two about how to fall asleep.

Big Think
@pmiossec @cmconseils Have they listened to the German audio drama #diedreifragezeichen ? πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚
#horspiel
@cmconseils I think they're lying to mess with our heads. No one ever actually falls asleep in less than at least one hour. The people who claim they do are lying and I'm on to them!
@nazokiyoubinbou Welp I take Xanax sometimes so it helps tbh

@cmconseils I'm not counting when medication does it.

Any kind of antihistamine knocks me out. Even the non-drowsy kinds. I once took a dramamine to see what it would do for stuff like nausea and I was non-functional for at least three days. (I'm not even sure how long I lost, lol. That was just one! ONE dramamine!)

@cmconseils Yes, but I save it for 4 in the morning.

@cmconseils
Lot of things in my mind, but I listen to a story (radio or music or audio track in background) to stop all the voices and fall asleep.

Melatonine help me too.

@clement_moignard I tried melatonin, never worked for me, but Xanax yes
@cmconseils It's because there's so much in my head that by the time I hit the bed I have no more energy left to burn to keep thinking about all of it. I guess.
@cmconseils I would just like to sleep through a night - then I can worry about falling a sleep in less than an hour afterwards :D
@cmconseils The thing is, that we have β€œDie Drei Fragezeichen" in Germany. #diedreifragezeichen
@OddDev @cmconseils and Jack Slaughter, TKKG, Jan Tenner, Mark Brandis, Dr. Morbius, FΓΌnf Freunde, Bibi Blocksberg, Van Dusen, die Ferienbande, John Sinclair, Dorian Hunter… 5 minutes audio drama and youβ€˜ll fall asleep πŸ˜΄πŸ˜ƒ
@cmconseils
1) 20 mins of aerobic exercise
2) Bedroom window slightly open
3) Completely dark bedroom (or use an eye mask). Use ear plugs too if there's any unavoidable noise.
#sorted #sleep #FuckDrugs

@spacemagick @cmconseils

I can't do the ear plug and mask thing but window open all year (esy for me to say in AUS).
Yet, I still live w insomnia.

@PetraPanda @cmconseils
Avoiding blue light when trying to sleep is also thought by some to help. Personally, I only ever use red lights at night.
(Something which is very easy with modern LEDs.)
#sleep #LED #light
@cmconseils I've never been able to drift off quickly, unless I'm ill. Not an adult only thing as I remember having same issue as a child

@cmconseils everything on my mind is also sleepy.

sadly for me it has usually gotten enough sleep by about 3am so then it wakes me up demanding attention

@draNgNon I wake up at least 3 times every night I don't know why
@cmconseils I have found for myself, a lot of it relates to hydration levels. I do not like admitting that
@draNgNon weird dreams and nightmares don't help either :/

@cmconseils that's what I've discovered, though. startle awake from a dream, heart pounding, can't go back to sleep thinking about everything... drink some water. not a lot

it won't always help, so I don't know if the above is just-me or not; but since it's in the one-weird-trick category and certainly not risking harm, I thought I'd share

it really sucks waking up like that and not going back to sleep.

I'm only awake now becuase I foolishly had coffee at 5:30pm

@draNgNon yea I try that all the time and it doesn't work :(

@cmconseils when I was younger, Reagan was president, and I'd often wake up screaming from a nuclear nightmare; most of my peer group did.

I slept okay last night and woke up *to* a nuclear nightmare this time

@cmconseils
Oh and those who wake refreshed as the sun comes up, not hours before and still exhaustipated ...
@cmconseils I have that ability, but have to forcibly think dreamlike thoughts (flying, falling, felines, etc.) or remember past dreams... else my mind drift to PURE STRESS 😬
@catsalad yea most of the time I imagine a scenario in my head to try to fall asleep so I get what you mean

@cmconseils

If I did that, I'd just create a whole story and wouldn't fall asleep.

(of course that happens almost every night anyway)

@catsalad

@thehole @catsalad I can have lucid dreams so I can continue the story when I sleep :)
@cmconseils @thehole @catsalad
I always envied those who daydream, it's like a superpower I'd like to have (but I see it can be combersome)
@cmconseils I have exhausted myself by this point and my body gives up.
@jackyan I see, on my part I'm unemployed and stressed about money

@cmconseils
I consider myself lucky. There is however always something on my mind when I go to sleep. The trick is to deal with that the next day and catch some needed sleep there and then in order to be well rested for the day to come.

Everyone should find out in what way they can switch themselves on and off. It is really a blessing to be able to flick that switch, most times.

@alterelefant but I'm usually stressed about the next day :(
@cmconseils
Ah yes, that is a difficult one. Sorry to hear that you have problems with that. Stress does have a function because it focusses our attention. It is however not very useful when you try to catch some sleep. Not sure how to help with that.
