For people who with a deep disdain for web-based email, the Linux desktop is not in a great place. Evolution and Kmail are creaking under their own weight (groupware is so 2003), Geary is dead, Thunderbird is not native and looks and feels like it, Claws/Sylpheed/Balsa are relics, and that's it.
It's clear people aren't lining up to develop email clients when the paths of least resistance are web-based email and Thunderbird, but I still think both KDE and GNOME are missing a core, focused, user-friendly email application. I wish I could program.
