Think about this. Having started a war with no planning, the US has discovered that it can't defend its own bases in the Middle East. So it is shifting troops to hotels and other residences where they are shielded by civilians. That's a war crime.

Placing U.S. Troops in Middle East Hotels May Violate Laws of War

U.S. commanders have kept many troops away from bases in the region to protect them from Iran’s ballistic missile attacks.

The New York Times

@gleick

the US president announced intention to destroy civilian infrastructure if he does not get what he wants.

Surely this ticks all the 'state terrorism' boxes.

@benh @gleick The world keeps trying to pretend that things are normal and act like they can just treat him as a normal, sane president.

Meanwhile he's quickly becoming an official dictator and consolidating power to do anything he wants. He attacks on whims and signs whatever Project 2025 puts on his desk.

Yeah, no, not a normal, sane president.

The time it takes the world to actually realize they can't keep treating this as a problem that will just go away on its own somehow is very costly

@gleick Talk about using human shields…
@gleick it was that from the beginning, and at all levels.
@gleick Israel got away with bombing Palestinian hospitals, claiming they were Palestinian terrorist hotspots. So...???
@gleick After decades of accusing others of using "human shields" the US military is doing exactly that.
@gleick Wasn’t that what Israel keep accusing Hamas and Hezbollah are doing as an excuse to kill large numbers of civilians?
@gleick And according to Israeli (and by extension all nations agreeing with them) rules, it's now the civilians' fault.
@gleick Ah so the exact same thing Israel would bomb schools and hospitals in Gaza

@gleick

it's... the same war crime they accuse Hamas of doing

@peachfront @gleick Yes, and then they blamed the civilians for being there.
@gleick Don't the states where this is happening have anything to say about it?
@gleick
War crimes only happen to nations that are part of the International Criminal Court. The USA is not a signatory to the ICC. Terror states like the USA and russia don't join the ICC so they can protect terrorists.

@gleick

Gotta love the lickspittle @newyorktimes headline, to wit,

'War Criminals *may be* committing #WarCrime'

#CorporateMedia #Journalism ?
@FAIR keeps the receipts

@gleick (wearily) Yeah, yeah. Add it to the list …

@gleick Seems more root cause is at the top of the trickle down economics.

But how do you achieve a 100% peaceful graduation, of such Divide and Conquer? Is it possible to Multiply and Unite and counteract?

@gleick
Dispersion has been usual since artillery.
Taking over the whole building is also more usual, for security.
I suspect hotels may not be fully booked just now?
@gleick
ANOTHER war crime…
Ftfy

@gleick

Well they do advertise, 'Join the Army and See the World'

#tRump and his crew are the dumbest government ever.

@gleick US troops doing the same shit that was such a sticking point during the Revolution that it became one of the first amendments to the constitution. 10/10

@disorderlyf @gleick

And we soundly berated Palestininan's for doing it.

@gleick "May" violate.... I'd lol if I wasn't so disgusted
@gleick the "May" in that headline dear god. just say it how it is, it's a war crime you cowardly publication
@gleick That'd be the same country that lambasted Iran for placing a school near a military installation ...?

@gleick

Israel had a word for such buildings, whether or not they had soldiers in them.

Targets.

Hope those buildings get flattened.

@gleick
The #rome Statute is the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Its purpose is to prosecute the gravest international crimes: #genocide crimes against humanity and #war crimes.

Neither the #unitedstates , nor #Russia, #israel or #china has ratified it.

No international court means no conviction under the #genevaconvention .

They do not care. They only care about #dictating thier own #truth - to confuse, reflect and controle/bully the whole world.

@mobidic @gleick It just means it has to be done the hard way. Each signatory to the Geneva conventions has a duty and obligation to pursue war crimes in their own national courts fory any other signatory if they are unable or unwilling in their national courts. The ICC streamlines and standardizes this, but universal jurisdiction was always an option in the original Geneva conventions, to which those countries are a signatory.
@gleick and something they accused pallestinians off
@gleick How humiliating. Are they Trump hotels by any chance?
@gleick Been a long while since yanks cared about war crimes ... Vietnam etc etc
