L’esercito messicano ha arrestato nel nord-ovest del Paese Audias Flores Silva, noto come ‘El Jardinero’, considerato uno dei principali leader del Cartello Jalisco Nuova Generazione (Cjng). L’operazione rappresenta un nuovo duro colpo per l’organizzazione criminale, a due mesi dall’uccisione del suo capo, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, detto ‘El Mencho’. Flores Silva, ritenuto il possibile successore del leader ucciso, era ricercato anche dagli Stati Uniti, che avevano offerto una ricompensa di 5 milioni di dollari per informazioni utili alla sua cattura.
Secondo le autorità messicane, Flores Silva è stato arrestato mentre si nascondeva nei pressi di El Mirador, nello stato di Nayarit, senza che si siano registrate altre vittime o feriti. La sua cattura arriva in un contesto di forte escalation di violenza legata al cartello, esplosa dopo la morte di El Mencho – in seguito alla quale ci sono stati una serie di attacchi contro attività commerciali da parte di uomini armati, incendi di veicoli e blocchi stradali che hanno causato più di 70 morti, tra cui 25 membri della Guardia Nazionale – e segna un ulteriore passo nell’offensiva del governo messicano contro una delle organizzazioni criminali più potenti del continente. L’uccisione di Oseguera Cervantes è stata vista come una vittoria per il governo messicano in un momento in cui la presidente Claudia Sheinbaum sta reprimendo i cartelli con maggiore fermezza rispetto ai suoi predecessori, nel tentativo di contrastare le minacce di intervento da parte del presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump. The Mexican army arrested Audias Flores Silva, known as ‘El Jardinero’, a major leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), in the northwest of the country. The operation represents a new hard blow for the criminal organization, two months after the death of its leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as ‘El Mencho’. Flores Silva, considered the possible successor to the deceased leader, was also being sought by the United States, which had offered a reward of $5 million for information leading to his capture.

According to Mexican authorities, Flores Silva was arrested while hiding near El Mirador, in the state of Nayarit, without any other victims or injuries. His capture comes in a context of a strong escalation of violence linked to the cartel, which erupted after the death of El Mencho – following which there have been a series of attacks against commercial businesses by armed men, vehicle fires and road blockades that have caused more than 70 deaths, including 25 members of the National Guard – and marks another step in the Mexican government’s offensive against one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the continent. The killing of Oseguera Cervantes was seen as a victory for the Mexican government at a time when President Claudia Sheinbaum is suppressing the cartels with greater firmness than her predecessors, in an attempt to counter threats of intervention from United States President Donald Trump. Last year, Trump designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and five other Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.
