Senior parrots, birds, birding, rock swaps, crystals & stone-cutting. Sometimes I write funny dialogue for the birds in your photographs. I read books, & I vote!

Once you have a word for it, it dies into the word. But the cultural pressure is to name. Isn't it? Be honest. We're all at it. The only route out is to do. Even the honest attempt to describe without naming is a loss. Are you a ...? Refute the question. (Better still, the formulation itself.)

Jungle Jewel

This morning, while browsing through some of my photographs from Costa Maya, Mexico, I stumbled upon a few that at first glance looked like nothing more than a dark tangle of leaves. I assumed they were accidental shots and nearly deleted them—until something caught my eye. “Wait a minute… what’s that?” Nestled in the shadows was a bird. Based on the shape and coloring, I believe it’s a blue-gray tanager (Thraupis episcopus)—at least that’s what Merlin suggests. Still, I’d appreciate help confirming or correcting the ID. The online photos show a similar bird, though many feature a lighter blue body than the one I captured.

Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

Almost grownup Allen’s hummingbird
I started back at work yesterday and returned to the office for the first time today. I have doctors appointments for Thursday and Friday. Which also means “days to find birds again”.

This Is Just To Quack

I have walked
all across
the data center
floor space

on which
you were probably
banning all
of the ducks

forgive me
it was so shiny
and cold
and full of blinky lights

edit: changed warm to cold as today the outside temperature was actually higher.

I'm on the server floor of a "highly secure data center with 24/7/365 surveillance, direct access control and robust perimeter security".

An actual duck just walked by. 🦆

The panic is absolutely glorious. I think this just became one of the highlights of my life.

Hillary has been right about everything.
