The dark underside of the modern economy is an expansion in both he detecting & incidence of modern slavery, partly driven by models of gig working & precarious employment already evident in the low-wage sectors of the UK's labour market.
Its just one more aspect of the UK's economy that looks more like economic relations of C19th than the C21st.
These workers are the logical outcome of the UK's already dysfunctional (labour) economy.

Reflect Orbital is stupid and will cause countless problems with no measurable benefits.
A U.S. company is proposing to 'sell sunlight after dark,' saying it could help power solar farms and provide access to light in emergency situations. Astronomers are not only concerned about what this will do to the night sky, but also to wildlife.
It's becoming increasingly clear to me that Reflect Orbital's fucking stupid giant mirror satellite, with absolutely NOTHING useful to offer, which will cause countless safety issues, ecological disasters, and destroy the night sky, is going to launch.
A bunch of astronomers and I have sent out a fact sheet about them to a bunch of journalists, but very few are going to write about this. So, let me try posting it all here.
