Elon Musk and X are once again proving why institutions should never rely on corporate-owned, centrally-controlled social media platforms to reach their people.
Today we are calling on institutions around the world to take control of their #DigitalSovereignty, including their social accounts. Governments should communicate directly with their citizens on open platforms, not through the mouthpiece of a corporation.

If you care about digital sovereignty and want to see your government join the #fediverse, contact them to say that #ItsTimeToAbolishX.
Help us make a list of how to get in touch with a representative in your area under this post, and don’t forget to #hashtag so your neighbours can find it 👇🏽 we’ll start:

@MyricaGale
> I've noticed the Greens have Mastodon accounts
Do they host their own Mastodon service(s), or do they contract it out to the Mastodon company's hosting service?
> Unlike many SNP MPs/MSPs who have decided the private enterprise Bluesky is the way to go
Are you sure? In theory, they could be hosting their own PDS, and using the BlackSky relay (or another one independent of BlueSky), while allowing BS members to follow them.
Just curious.
@MyricaGale
> The Green accounts I follow seem to be on Mastodon.scot
That's a start. But I'll be more impressed when they're posting as @[email protected]
> Most of the SNP ones are on Bluesky
Even that's a step forward from Xitter. But again, I'll be more impressed when I see them posting on either network using snp.org. I mean, rather than being under someone else's domain ... ; )

Networks For Democracy.
Seems to be part of a much wider trend.

I'd be interested to hear your reasons, but afaik Usenet was knocked down by the web and buried by smartphones but still exists.
There’s an understandably optimistic posting on Mastodon today: Where are the universities in the Fediverse?Why don’t universities have their own Mastodon instances yet?Why don’t …
@xodus_online @Mastodon I don't really agree with the website on several issue's. You said Twitter promotes "Far right" whatever that means to you, but it's not only far right (which you dedicate a whole page to), but also far left who are promoted by Twitter. Let's not make it about politics. They promote whatever gets people fired up, which is both sides of the isle.
You also said on the website that Bluesky is a good alternative, which I don't agree with. Bluesky has a prominent bias for "left wingers". I think both sides of the extremes are not good.
Over 60% of shared links on Bluesky lead to left-wing sites, 20% centrist, and only 8% right-leaning, per a University of Zurich study.
I don't agree with the new policies of Twitter (is why I'm here) but let's take back social media from politics and let social media be what it always was, a media to be social with people, not a politics forum :D
@tristan @xodus_online @Mastodon
Well, Elon Musk is widely known for supporting fascists.

While we do try to collect contact details for all public organizations in the world, we don't collect such about politicians/representatives, which I think was the ask here.
(Separately, credit should also go to @wikimediaDE who arguably has supported the project more than WMSE.)
@Mastodon in France there was the #HelloQuitX initiative earlier this year, morphed into #EscapeX ( @fr.escape-x.org / @HelloQuitteX ) that was pushing in this direction – but was blocked/ignored by most gov and politicians in France.
@leavex somehow took over and might have more to say and offer.

On a separate track, there is a direct call for action on the French parliament, in the form of 2 official petitions at the Assemblée nationale :
▶️ https://politipet.fr/2610 (lists both)
★ https://petitions.assemblee-nationale.fr/initiatives/i-2610 nº2610
★ https://petitions.assemblee-nationale.fr/initiatives/i-2706 nº2706
which would benefit from a couple of million more votes/signatures.

@leavex @[email protected]
@fr.escape-x.org @HelloQuitteX @cobrate @greg_harvey
[Instead of CCing accounts, the same space would have been used in the toot quoting]
the title of those petitions :
- https://petitions.assemblee-nationale.fr/initiatives/i-2610 :

contact McKinsey who advise the governments ....
@BaseFortify Governments see it as an advantage that they can run their own server instance of Mastodon. Several EU organs, and several universities have already done this.
Total sovereignty.
