Iran, dazi e vendita di armi Usa a Taiwan. Sono i tre temi al centro dei numerosi incontri in programma a Pechino tra il presidente Usa Donald Trump e il presidente cinese Xi Jinping. Il tycoon è atterrato a Pechino ieri sera, accolto trionfalmente da 300 giovani che hanno sventolato bandierine americane e cinesi. ‘Benvenuto, benvenuto! Un caloroso benvenuto!’, hanno scandito in cinese. Trump non ha risposto alle domande dei giornalisti, è salito su una limousine diretta al suo hotel.
Sul tavolo la questione Fentanyl
Ma, tra i temi in discussione nel bilaterale Usa-Cina, c’è anche la limitazione del ruolo della Cina nella crisi del fentanyl negli Stati Uniti, una promessa fatta da Trump alla base Maga fin dal suo primo mandato. Il rischio reale è che Trump si scontri con un muro, senza ottenere misure concrete, un danno politico enorme, in vista delle elezioni di Midterm. Inoltre Trum arriva a questo incontro indebolito dalle decisioni della Corte Suprema e della Corte federale del commercio internazionale che hanno dichiarato illegali gran parte dei dazi imposti al mondo, Cina inclusa.
Intanto Trump nomina il nuovo capo dell’Ice
E, mentre Trump era in volo, il suo entourage ha annunciato che David Venturella sarà il nuovo direttore ad interim dell’Ice. Già funzionario dell’agenzia per l’immigrazione, ha lavorato per una società di gestione di carceri private, il GEO Group. Todd Lyons, l’attuale capo, lascerà a fine maggio.
L’agenzia è senza una guida confermata dal Senato da nove anni. Dal ritorno alla casa Bianca, l’Ice è stata al centro della stretta sull’immigrazione da parte di Trump. L’uccisione da parte di agenti di due cittadini americani in Minnesota, Alex Pretti e Renee Good, avvenuta a gennaio, aveva scatenato proteste in tutto il Paese. In più le organizzazioni per i diritti umani hanno sollevato preoccupazioni ii merito ai centri di detenzione dei migranti dove si sono già verificati 18 morti.
