[plus d’infos sur notre projet] La ville de Longwy a une histoire intimement liée avec celle de la sidérurgie. Ville des luttes ouvrières, ville de migration. Il ne reste aujourd’hui presque plus de trace de cette histoire. De janvier à juin 2021 nous réaliserons avec Nabila Halim un travail photographique et sonore avec les habitant•e•s de Longwy et les 4e D du collège Vauban autour de la thématique de la migration. Cette belle aventure est possible grâce à l’association Caranusca et la ville de Longwy.

[Some information about our project]: From January to June 2021, together with Nabila Halim, we will carry out a photographic and sound project with the residents of Longwy and students of Vauban Middle School, exploring the theme of migration. This wonderful adventure is made possible thanks to the Caranusca Association and the city of Longwy.

[journal de terrain, Longwy, semaine 9] Rencontre avec Alain. 

Alain est arrivé à Longwy à 14 ans. Il arrivait de champagne. Son père, cheminot, avait trouvé du travail ici. Ils ont toujours habité dans ce quartier, auparavant réservé aux travailleurs de la SNCF. Il m’a raconté le souvenir de son arrivée à Longwy, avec la poussière partout et le ciel rouge des fumées d’usine.
Nous avons passé près de 4 heures à discuter de son attachement à Longwy, de ses souvenirs des manifestations, de ses travails au Luxembourg et en Belgique. Pour cette première rencontre j’ai pris quelques notes, mais je n’ai pas enregistré sa voix. J’espère que cela pourra être le cas pour lors d’une deuxième rencontre. 
J’ai été très marqué par sa voix posée et son regard et visage incroyablement doux.

[field note, Longwy, week 9]. Meeting with Alain

Alain arrived in Longwy at the age of 14. He came from Champagne. His father, a railway worker, had found work here. They have always lived in this area, which used to be reserved for SNCF workers. He told me how he remembered arriving in Longwy, with the dust everywhere and the sky red with factory fumes.
We spent nearly 4 hours talking about his attachment to Longwy, his memories of the demonstrations and his work in Luxembourg and Belgium. I took a few notes for this first meeting, but I didn't record his voice. I hope to be able to do so for a second meeting. 
I was very impressed by his calm voice and his incredibly gentle look and face.

[journal de terrain,Lonwgy].6/9 : Haut fourneau perdu dans terrain de golf. 

Comment vient l’idée de faire un golf autour d’un haut fourneau ? Est ce que ça a un sens ? J’ai lu récemment un article sur Henri Lefebvre. Y a t-il ici un lien trop flagrant entre espace dominé et dominant ? Des premiers témoignages cette configuration ne semble pas marquer les habitant•e•s.

Je ne peux pas encore m’expliquer cette fascination que j’ai pour ce haut fourneau couché. Dernier vestige d’une période si vivante dans les souvenirs des habitant•e•s rencontré•e•s.

[field note, Longwy]. 6/9 : Blast furnace lost in a golf course.
How does the idea of building a golf course around a blast furnace come about? Does it make sense? I recently read an article about Henri Lefebvre. Is there an overly obvious link here between dominated and dominant space? From the initial testimonies, this configuration doesn’t seem to stand out to the residents.
I still cannot explain this fascination I have for this laid-down blast furnace.
