Dive number: 718
Date / time: Fri Nov 14, 2025 3:37 PM
Dive site: Pebble Beach, Massachusetts
Water Temperature: 48F
Bottom Time: 1h3
After a fun afternoon out on the boat with the ROV, we headed to shore to do an actual dive. We looked at OGB, but it was bumpy and unpleasant looking, so we headed over to Pebble. Per usual, we swam for awhile out to the reef and then cruised along the rocks. It was remarkably empty - we saw moon snails and crabs, but only a couple fish and shrimp. The only real interesting find was a tiny lumpfish right near the end of the dive. We exited around sunset and headed home after an overall fun day.

The twin lighthouses on Thacher Island, Rockport MA, photographed from Buck Hill. From this perspective, the North Tower (38.89 mi) is on the left and the South Tower (38.76 mi) is on the right. The northern end of the Island and the North Tower are owned by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service. The remainder of the island, including the South Tower, the boat ramp, and numerous houses and structures are owned by the Town of Rockport MA. I visited the island last year, and it is spectacular to see these lighthouses up close. While we were there we were able to climb to South Tower, though visibility was not optimal on the day of our visit.
This has proven to be a challenging photo to capture. This looks over a lot of water and even on the days when things are crystal clear, the ocean often has fog, haze or excessive turbulence. To see this also requires positioning oneself on very particular parts of Buck Hill. Near the summit, the view of the lighthouses is obscured by Chickatawbut Hill (which can be seen at the bottom of the frame).

Lyle Lovett & His Acoustic Group at the Shalin Liu in Rockport MA, 5/4/2025
Lyle Lovett is a phenomenal talent and great performer – you should see him any time you get a chance. He was in Rockport at the Shalin Liu with his “Acoustic Group” a few weeks ago – great show.
We saw the Sunday “matinee” at 5pm, which meant that you could still see the harbor throughout the whole show.
Before the show at the Shalin Liu, Rockport MAThe “acoustic group” includes some real heavy hitters:
Needless to say the sound of a phone camera from ~80 ft away doesn’t replicate the sound of the venue, which is just fantastic.

Tinsley Ellis, Naked Truth, 2024 on Alligator Records
Tinsley Ellis has put out over 20 albums between 1982 and 2024, including more than a dozen on Chicago’s Alligator Records, one of my favorite blues labels (founded in 1971).
This, his latest, Includes “Grown Ass Man” (which I think should probably be “grown-ass man” since it’s really a compound adjective, isn’t it?) as well as covers of Son House, Willie Dixon, and Leo Kottke. Great contemporary takes on traditional blues.
Picked up this signed copy on gold vinyl directly from the artist at a show at the Shalin LIu in Rockport MA.

If you've never been to the Shalin Liu performing arts center in Rockport, it's a fantastic venue, with a large scale window backing up to Rockport Harbor. Last night we saw blues guitarist/singer/songwriter Tinsley Ellis, who put on a great show. That's his 1937 National resonator guitar on stage above - he walked on with
