Most #Muslims and #Christians say they don’t participate in celebrations of #Diwali the Indian festival of lights that is traditionally celebrated by #Hindus, #Sikhs, #Jains and #Buddhists But substantial minorities of Christians (31%) and Muslims (20%) report that they do celebrate Diwali. Celebrating Diwali is especially common among Muslims in the West, where 39% say they participate in the festival, and in the South (33%).

Delhi’s Jain community raised Rs 15 lakh and then went to Old Delhi markets posing as Muslims. They bargained hard, bought 124 goats, and have kept them at the now-famous temple in Chandni Chowk.

@paulthenerd I really respect this idea, as a fellow vegan. On the other hand, having given a lot of thought, and considered a lot of information, I think that - like the Sanskrit ideal of #ahimsa - true #Veganism taken this way would mean that we basically can't eat anything. Or drive cars. Or take buses, trains or even bicycles, as all cause some harm to living beings.

The #Jains have come closest to the ideal, and recognized it remains an ideal.

We do the best we can, meanwhile. ANY choice to reduce harm to living beings is a #Vegan choice, from my point of view.
