A very last minute #InsectSaturday / #InsektenSamstag + 𝚂𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢 𝚃𝚒𝚖𝚎

I have been bemoaning the fact that it's been so cold in the UK that the bees have been nowhere to be found. While I was taking pictures of Mom's roses I had to crawl halfway into my Hebe and when I turned around I saw MY FIRST BEE! It flew away before I could get more than a shot of it's ass but I was so excited that I sent this pic to @NotAHopeInHades to share my joy. After graciously complimenting my photo (in an attempt to soften the blow, no doubt) they gently informed me that my bee was, in fact, a motherfucking wasp.

So here's a Yellowjacket tush with some ready to burst Hebe buds. Enjoy.

For #insectSaturday / #insektenSamstag - I saw an interesting bee buzzing around the top of a low wall - I willed it to land, so I could take some photos.

...

It landed, and got grabbed by a spider. Oh no. Fortunately (for the bee) it escaped.

Bee: Coelioxys sp. - a cuckoo bee, aiming to lay eggs in the nest of solitary Megachile bees? Probably not so fortunate an escape for those other bees.
