You can't use the [Alt text] option on #diaspora *, it overrides the "optional title" witch is the real #ALTtext over here on friendica!

> Wir müssen mit der Föderation mit Diaspora* höllisch aufpassen. Das ist zum einen genial, zum anderen funktioniert nicht alles wie es sollte.

🚨 Our digital selves are overgrown. Automation, surveillance, AI intermediaries everywhere.
What if we could rewild the web? 🌱
Turn profiles, feeds, & platforms back into living ecosystems of thought.
Humans > algorithms. Trust, privacy, and curiosity remain the code.

My experience @rcbo is, that people are tribal and need to gather around a term, a brand a togetherness.
So to evade by all means to get stuck just with mastodon and use that effect of "we" I can't see why no create it. Not in a tiresome repetitive hypnotizing fashion, but it's important to point out the distinctive difference.
For me it's like fediVerse is the result of a more than a decade long search and fight for what we have in common, our #commons and that's ultimately the decentralized communication agreement that evolved into activityPub.
I actually can pinPoint you to the evolution of respective hashtags over time and space of about 13 years.
It's a cultural term at this stage I guess.
#federatedWeb #theFederation #fediVerse
federatedWeb -> theFederation -> fediVerse
Even a misspelling 10 years ago shows up, federateWeb with a TV take about #friendica and #diaspora, a comment from @fabrixxm and of course @tobias is all over the place ..
Actually the upcoming #FOSDEM event has a long lasting hashtag stream on geraspora, maybe this is the first fosdem/federatedweb post, including an interview with a #diasporian on #FOSDEM2015.

For your information, Another shot at a decentralized social network, built from status.net it seems. GNU Social Network: http://foocorp.org/projects/social/faq/ I'm not sure at this time if the project did take off indeed. I see no public source code, unless I'm missing it somewhere, and the website isn't finished. The funny name of the website doesn't count. :). Theoretically. It aims to work based on open protocols, such as OAuth and OStatus. #federatedweb #openweb #privacy #openprotocols #freedombox (This project was also publicly made known these days by tomtom - in a way that was misunderstood by a few people including myself, sorry for that! - but it's just one of the many initiatives that try to solve the technical challenges of social networking decentralization and open web).

This is my first #Mastodon-powered fediverse server. _^
That means, https://aleph.land is one of the first and oldest Mastodon-based #Fediverse instance. _~
I occasionally log in here to keep it alive because this is historical and memorable for me. During this time, and before Mastodon was released, I was running my own Fediverse instance powered by #Hubzilla.
Back then, the protocol of the fediverse was #OpenMicroBlogging then #OStatus; #AcitivtyPub came years later.
Today, we have another federated protocol: #ATproto which is powering The #ATmosphere network (#Bluesky is just one instance).
(PS. Max chars in Aleph.Land is 1024; and using the #GlitchSoc fork since it came out.)
You can check out my first ever post using Mastodon here: https://aleph.land/@yahananxie/28062

1. That the #Fediverse network is Mastodon; and #Mastodon is the Fediverse.
2. That Mastodon is a network when it is not, it is a software.
3. That the fediverse is small.
4. That the fediverse is competing against this and that #SNS; and its objective is to end them. Truth is, there is no such objective, since 2008 (and earlier), the objective has always been to #BringDownTheWalls.
5. That the fediverse is new. It started in 2008. (See: https://codeberg.org/ddfon/federated-sns ), and discussions about a #FederatedWeb started years before that.
6. That the fediverse is only a #microblogging network. In reality, there are software for fediverse blogging, photo sharing, book reviews, podcasting, and video hosting, to mention a few.
7. That the fediverse will eventually close down like all others. Again, it started in early 2008, that's 16 years ago, and it's still here.
