We believe that social media should be social again.

Finding genuine human conversations on the Fediverse

Lately, I’ve been feeling that genuine human conversations on the Fediverse are becoming harder to come across.

Personally, I spend time every day searching for meaningful exchanges, spontaneous discussions, and diverse perspectives… yet I often end up encountering automated content, inactive accounts, or posts that feel disconnected from real dialogue.

After several hours of daily searching, I sometimes end up putting my phone down, telling myself I’ll try again tomorrow—hoping there will be more life, more interaction, more humanity.

I’m not saying it no longer exists—but rather that it feels more scattered, harder to reach.

So I’d like to open a discussion:
How do you manage to find interesting and authentic conversations on the Fediverse?
Is it a matter of communities, curated lists, keywords, instances, or simply patience?

I’m genuinely curious about your methods and experiences.

The annual #SocialWeb Operations Survey from @iftas is open!

With over 8,000 active installs, we want the #Mastodon community's voice to be heard. Whether you're running a single-person server or a larger community hub, your feedback directly shapes the tools, resources, and advocacy IFTAS takes on. And they've rebuilt the survey on Tally this year, so it's EU-based and mobile-ready.

Please take 10 minutes to complete the survey: https://tally.so/r/81MW6k

Unsubscribing tags.pub from Open Registration Relays

A relay server is a server that collects public content from many Fediverse servers and distributes it to the other servers. tags.pub , the global hashtag server run by the Social Web Foundation, can follow relay servers and boost any tagged content coming from the connected servers. Especially for relay servers that gather together content from lots of small servers, this can help connect people with others who share their interests on the Fediverse. However, some people have said they were […]

I get the point of this whole blog post isn't this quote, but every time I hear people say the below quote, I roll my eyes.

If you sincerely believe email and IRC are **that bad** to talk to people, you *don't know how to use email and IRC*

> We want to get away from the trolls, algorithms, and bad moderation of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, but we don't want to have to go back to using old-school methods like email or IRC to talk to our contacts. There has to be a better way.

Read the rest of the post before replying instead of just the above quote

A Reasonable Analysis of the Social Web: or, How Not To Promote A New Tech Alternative

A Reasonable Analysis of the Social Web: or, How Not To Promote A New Tech Alternative

How many people who loved the ability to tag famous people on OG Twitter, now want every possible tool to only see replies from the people they choose?

(not referring to 'die slur' shit from trolling anons)

I get it, you've got a big following now. The rabble is annoying. What about we compromise by normalizing voting comments up and down everywhere on fedi. Then the best stuff from even nobodies can be seen if others agree, and junk can be downvoted into oblivion without mods.

Maybe the way to argue against a too censorious fedi culture is for the rest of us to start family based servers. To have lots of normies and lefties on them but also your rightwing uncle. To say to the censors, are you telling me he can't be here or widely federated cause he likes Trump even though you don't have to follow him, there's no algo to force his posts into your feed and he's clearly not an anonymous troll that intentionally bothers lefties etc?

Broadcasting was the mistake. Giving anybody that much automatic influence over other people's attention was sure to corrupt us. It allowed money to be turned into power.

Decentralized social media returns us to a word of mouth culture. Everybody has to earn the right to be listened to. Info, ideas and art gets vetted by people you trust before you know it exists.
