2026-05-01: Platform cost analytics

In addition to our quarterly platform analytics, which focus on user and repository metrics, we have now also explored the financial side to produce a report. The aim is to give users an overview of what it costs to run the platform, how the money is spent, and how much funding is coming in through donations via Liberapay (thanks to every sponsor!). Cost Summary Report Index of monthly cost reports A few notes about this graph: Our current resources on PROD are way larger than what we c...

👋️ Dear #codefloe users

We'd love to get your feedback on the use of mirrors on our platform: https://forum.codefloe.com/t/platform-discussion-the-use-of-mirrors/107

Platform discussion: the use of mirrors

Dear community, we’d like to get your opinions about the use of the “mirrors” feature in the platform. Right now, this feature is enabled, meaning users can create repositories which are mirrors of repositories from other platforms (GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, etc.). The problem We’re seeing continuous abusive usage of this functionality where some accounts have repos that only consist of mirrors. Some of these are also (very) large repos (100MB+, sometimes in the GB range). These repos don’t ha...

Our hosted #renovate bot now runs via the mogenius/renovate-operator (https://github.com/mogenius/renovate-operator).

This enables webhook-based support, i.e. clicking the checkboxes in the renovate dashboard and PR actions now have an effect!

Guess I'm going to try Codefloe's CI/CD soon :)

Probably for auto-building and uploading my blog to thomas-leister.de

Moved all my public GitHub repositories to @Codeberg

See: https://codeberg.org/thomas.leister/

... and the private ones to @codefloe , because Codeberg is for open source licensed repos, only.

Feelin' good! 💪

Introducing: Granular watch setting for repositories!

https://forum.codefloe.com/t/2026-03-03-granular-repository-watch-settings/85

More control than just watch/unwatch, so you can finally watch "only" releases for repositories of interest!

2026-03-03: Granular repository watch settings

We’re happy to roll out a significant improvement related to platform interaction today: granular repository watch settings! So far, users could only “watch” a repo or unwatch it, i.e. receive notifications for all events or none. This is a subsequent downside for many, as often one only wants to get notified about new releases (and/or PRs) but not about any new issue. And as a bonus on top, we also added another option: exclude specific users from the selected events. Especially in the era...

In the last hour, we got hammered by an Asian bot farm which used a very recent Chrome UA and thousands of unique IPs issueing around ~500 req/min for arbitrary repo (and request) paths.

This first caused a very high CPU pressure on the server running Forgejo and subsequently also a spike in memory, ultimately making the instance unresponsive.

If you ever wondered how this looks like on the metrics side, we've attached some screenshots here.

We've added a subnet-based rate-limit to catch these (at /16 level), so this attack vector isn't possible anymore (at least at this intensity level).

We now provide a hosted #weblate instance at https://translate.codefloe.com.

As a #foss tool, @weblate helps software projects manage, simplify, and refine their translations through a collaborative interface.
