House Plan. Iaia (FdI) vs. Salis: “Does not favor evictions, recovers empty properties.”

As rapporteur of the Meloni government’s Housing Plan, I observe that the statements made by MEP Ilaria Salis, who claims the decree “would facilitate evictions,” seem frankly more like an ideological slogan than a serious analysis of the measure. It probably hasn’t even been read by the Housing Plan itself. Because if it had, it would have discovered that the decree contains no provisions that would make evictions easier or reduce the protections provided by law. Speaking is Dario Iaia, a member of parliament for Brothers of Italy. “In fact, the Housing Plan intervenes specifically on the causes that often lead to evictions: support for innocent arrears; recovery of unused social housing; increasing the supply of accessible housing; and tools to guarantee greater housing stability for families.” “Apparently, for certain left-wing groups, helping those who are truly in economic difficulty isn’t enough. Recovering abandoned social housing isn't enough. Creating new affordable housing isn’t enough. The important thing is to transform every measure into an opportunity for propaganda, even at the cost of telling things that simply don’t exist in the decree,” Iaia emphasizes. “But, to avoid embarrassment, it would perhaps be useful to read the text at least before launching accusations.” Here, Ilaria Salis, once a member of housing movements and now a left-wing MEP, had said that “it’s a housing plan that’s arrived very, very late.” But as to what it’s late in relation to, it’s unclear, given that Italy has been waiting for decades for a similar measure and that center-left governments had never approved them. In any case, besides the time issue, there’s a matter of merit: “It’s a very incomplete housing plan, more than a housing plan, I would define it as a plan for evictions.” But the reality is different: the executive aims to recover empty social housing, precisely to prevent occupations that are so much to the liking of the left, and to give priority to families who are on the waiting list and have been there for years. Remembering that the Milan Aler had asked Salis for 90,000 euros in unpaid rent, since she had illegally occupied a social housing unit.

Sondaggi elettorali, Pd in affanno mentre crescono M5s e Futuro Nazionale
Stabile all’1,4% +Europa e in lieve calo c’è poi Noi Moderati all’1,2%. Scende al 28% la quota degli elettori che non si esprimono.
L'articolo Sondaggi politici, continua la crisi del Pd: dem in calo, balzo di M5s e Futuro Nazionale sembra essere il primo su LA NOTIZIA.

Political polls: the Pd (Democratic Party) continues to face a crisis; Democrats are declining, a surge in M5s (Five Star Movement) and Future Italy.

The difficult moment for the Pd continues, as it loses support in the latest polls and sees Brothers of Italy distancing itself on one side and, albeit with a significant distance, approaching the Five Star Movement on the other. Specifically, the Five Star Movement is the party that gains the most support alongside Future National in the latest Swg poll for TgLa7.

Among the leading parties, the variations are minimal upwards, with a tenth of a point gained by Brothers of Italy and Avs. Apart from the 5 Stars, which gain 0.3%, there are widespread declines among the other parties: Pd, Forza Italia, and Lega cede 0.2%.

Electoral polls, Pd in distress while M5s and Future National grow

Brothers of Italy remains in the lead and, in the week following the municipal elections, gains 0.1% of support, reaching 28.2%. The lead over the Pd increases, which loses two tenths of a point and stops at 22.3%. An opposite trend for the Five Star Movement, which gains three tenths of a point and returns to 13% of support.

In the center-right, the allies of Giorgia Meloni continue to experience a difficult moment: Forza Italia cedes 0.2% and stops at 7.2%, thus seeing Verdi and Sinistra, which grow by 0.1% to 6.7%. It goes even worse for Lega, which losing 0.2% does not go beyond 5.8%. And so Future National comes closer: the party of Roberto Vannacci continues to recover support precisely on the Carroccio, reducing week after week the distances.

Future National gains 0.3% and reaches 4.6%, thus reducing the distances with Lega by just over a percentage point. A dynamic not insignificant in the balances of the center-right in view of the next political elections. Going forward, we find Action down 0.1% at 3.4%, as does Italia Viva which stabilizes at 2.4%. Stable at 1.4% is +Europa and in slight decline is then Noi Moderati at 1.2%. The quota of voters who do not express themselves drops to 28%.

Italian surgeon exposed to Ebola in Congo, the woman is not presenting symptoms but will be transferred to Spallanzani.

After coming into contact with some patients later found to be positive for Ebola, an Italian surgeon serving at the health center in Salmat, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been transferred to Italy.
The return, as communicated by the Ministry of Health, is taking place “in total safety.” The woman, a worker for Doctors Without Borders, will be monitored at Spallanzani in Rome, where she will undergo precautionary quarantine and all necessary diagnostic tests.
According to information leaked, the surgeon would not present symptoms attributable to the virus. The transfer was however ordered because, as part of her clinical activity, she had come into contact with some patients who were later infected with Ebola on May 16th.
Italian surgeon exposed to Ebola in Congo, the woman does not have symptoms but will be transferred to Spallanzani.
But that’s not all. Two days later, on May 18th, the doctor also performed an urgent life-saving surgery on a child injured in a grenade explosion. The child, however, already presented some symptoms compatible with the virus and had been classified as a “suspected Ebola case.”
The note issued by the Ministry of Health also specifies that there are currently no cases of Ebola in Italy and that the alert level, as reaffirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO), remains very low both in our country and throughout the European Union.

Municipal elections, Donzelli: “The dreams of the left are shattered by the reality of facts.”

Normally, results from local elections are never useful for national outcomes. I acknowledge that Schlein had declared, “From Venice will arrive a message for Giorgia Meloni,” and the message has arrived – let’s continue like this.” This is the comment coming from Via della Scrofa, headquarters of Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy) in Rome, regarding the outcome of today’s elections. Giovanni Donzelli, the party’s organization manager under Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, particularly emphasizes the result in Venice, where the center-right won, somewhat surprisingly, in the first round. And he highlights this data by noting that within the center-left, “all candidates in Venice were convinced of continuing a narrative that had circulated for weeks about Meloni, the center-right in crisis, weeks and weeks that the left talks at cross-purposes and rejoices at how the wind has changed, then the Italians express themselves and wake up and their dreams shatter against the reality of the facts.”

In Tunisia, “Il Corriere di Tunisi” celebrates 70 years of Mediterranean Italian-speaking.

AGI - In Tunisia, the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Il Corriere di Tunisi, which ended on May 23rd in the Tunisian capital, highlighted the unique role of this publication, the only Italian-language daily in North Africa. Founded in 1956 by Giuseppe Finzi, the newspaper accompanied the evolution of relations between Rome and Tunis through the major political transformations of the Maghreb and the Mediterranean Europe. The ceremonies held at the Santa Croce complex, in the heart of the Tunis medina, brought together diplomats, academics, writers and representatives of the Italian community for a broader reflection on the future of the Italophone world and Euro-Mediterranean cultural exchanges.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella addressed a message to the newspaper’s readers, describing relations between Italy and Tunisia as “the foundation of a solid partnership,” nourished by “centuries of shared history in the Mediterranean basin.” The Italian head of state emphasized that Il Corriere di Tunisi remains “a privileged space for dialogue and encounter” for the Italian community in Tunisia as well as for the many Italian-speaking and Italian-loving Tunisians.

Italian Ambassador to Tunis, Alessandro Prunas, insisted on the increasingly strategic dimension of Tunisia in Rome’s projection in the Mediterranean. According to him, the newspaper represents “much more than a publication, but a true bastion of the Italophone world in North Africa.”

This anniversary is all the more significant at a time when the Mediterranean basin is experiencing new geopolitical fractures, from the migration crisis to regional tensions. The Italian-language newspaper founded in Tunis after Tunisia’s independence still claims its vocation as a bridge between the two shores.

A Strategic Partnership in Expansion
Ambassador Prunas recalled that approximately 50,000 Tunisian students are learning Italian today, while the number of study visas granted to Tunisians for Italian universities has sharply increased in recent years. This dynamic is part of a phase of strengthening bilateral relations, marked by the intensification of academic, economic and cultural exchanges, as well as new projects related to the Piano Mattei promoted by the Italian government in North Africa.

A Euro-Mediterranean Editorial Evolution
The newspaper’s director, Silvia Finzi, daughter of the former editor Elia Finzi, traced the editorial evolution of the publication, particularly its transition from Corriere di Tunisi to Corriere Euro-Mediterranean. This change, according to her, reflected the desire to promote “a Mediterranean culture based on exchange, coexistence and dialogue.” In a regional context marked by identity tensions and conflicts, she defended the idea that “talking about coexistence in the Mediterranean remains possible.”

Living Language and Shared Memory
Beyond the memory of the Italian community in Tunisia, the celebrations also highlighted the role of the newspaper in the living learning of the Italian language. Professor Meriem Dhouib, a Tunisian specialist in Italian literature at the University of La Manouba, mentioned the importance of the Corriere in her own intellectual journey. “The newspaper offers a living language, in motion, that accompanies the transformations of the world,” she explained, noting that the daily had allowed her to “live the Italian” beyond university textbooks.

A Mediterranean Cultural Showcase
The festivities also gave rise to a concert dedicated to the Italian-Tunisian composer Francesco Santoliquido as well as the presentation of the book *Le ragazze di Tunisi* by the Italian writer Luca Bianchini. All of these events transformed this anniversary into a showcase of a shared Mediterranean memory, where the Italian language continues to occupy a unique place in the Tunisian cultural landscape.

FDI is clashing, and the Pd mayor withdraws sponsorship from Andrea Scanzi’s “Sciagura.” The journalist from Il Fatto: “Do they now discover that he criticizes the government?”

Is the center-left like the center-right? Everything … happens in Thiene. A curious scandal broke out in recent hours in Thiene, the Vicenza town that leans gently towards the Val D’Astico. The center-left municipal administration of the city, governed by Mayor “Giampi” Michelusi, hastily withdrew its sponsorship of the theatrical production “La sciagura” (The Misfortune), by and with Andrea Scanzi (produced by Loft), which will be held at the Teatro Comunale on May 29th, on Friday, May 22nd. The mayor reversed course after the furious criticism of a town councilor from Fratelli d’Italia (Brothers of Italy), Giulia Scanavin. “A municipality cannot grant its sponsorship to a communication openly aligned against the national executive,” explained the Melon supporter from the minority in the municipality. According to the local newspaper Altovicentinonline.it, the first to report the news, it was “the offensiveness” of the show’s titles and tone, signed by the journalist from Il Fatto Quotidiano, that angered Scanavin. “A municipal administration can host cultural events, even critical, satirical, or politically oriented (and thankfully so ndr), but sponsoring is another thing: it means granting public and institutional recognition. It’s a very serious matter. The municipality cannot become a tool for partisan propaganda against the Government chosen democratically by Italians.”

Even though “La sciagura” is a theatrical production that has been on tour since 2024, and was previously a published book by PaperFirst, Mayor Michelusi quickly explained what was offensive about the title while officially documenting the revocation of sponsorship, thereby agreeing with the Fratelli d’Italia councilor. “In the request submitted for a series of performances, the title in question was different, specifically it did not include the subtitle and it was not possible to presume its content.” In short, the subtitle added by the “La sciagura” production team, which became the subject of a storm, was: “Chronicle of a Government of Runaways.” Michelusi also pointed out that the draft poster had not been submitted to the municipal offices to obtain permission. “The mayor called me on Friday evening to tell me about the revocation. The posters had not yet been posted, so yesterday I erased the subtitle on the posters one by one with a black marker,” explains to FattoQuotidiano.it, the show’s organizer, Alberto Parisotto.

The withdrawal of sponsorship means a 50% reduction in the costs of poster placement. “Nothing more. The organization is autonomous and manages on its own, but it’s the Scanavin controversy that is preposterous,” Parisotto remarks. “But where is the offense? There is no defamation. From a satirical point of view, the controversy is insane,” recalls Scanzi himself. “Does the mayor really discover the content of “La sciagura” just a few days before? Is there still someone who doesn’t know that my text criticizes the Meloni government? I find the mayor’s attitude very symptomatic, to the point that on May 29th next, being also the last performance of a work on tour for three seasons, I will dedicate a passage to him at the beginning of the show.”

Here are the latest dates of the tour.
