Been looking for these two photos from 2015, the picture of me looking awful is from the Plains 300, first time I spoke to @runpaintrunrun ❤️, and the two bikes are from the Spurn Point 400 where we rode through the night together after joining forces at the… Point (well close to it as the sea had taken it a few years before).
I’m riding the Plains 300 again this year, still stops twice at Dinky’s Diner.
@mejs When I was younger, fitter and slightly madder I used to regularly ride Audax events in England, but also occasionally in France & Belgium.
100km was my favourite distance although the longest event I did was 400km.
Last year (and in previous years) I volunteered as a helper in the London - Edinburgh - London 1200km international event. Now that's crazy but a lot of people do it!

This was a good ride but I think I’ll be riding a less aggressive bike for my next event (an overnight 300)!
Here’s a nice picture of a typical HQ at the arrivée and a famous fellow rider and also his more traditional bicycle as pictured at the start.
Out for a long time not for a good time ;-)
Waffling on about the 200k ride I did yesterday. There's more detail than I foresaw about Audax UK regulations, DiY rides and the RRtY awards. It's mostly in the footnotes. What have I become.
I started my first RRtY1 series in October 2023, the second in October 2024 and the third and fourth in October 2025. I’m now doing two years simultaneously because… well it seems manageable and I don’t want to take ten years to get the Ultra (x10) RRtY Award. If I keep going with two a year I’ll get that in 2029. Why you may ask does it matter. Getting the award does not matter at all. It’s what goes into getting it and what I get out of that which is what really matters. I suppose that’s not so different from any endeavour.
Route and instructions received, hoping my cold and the weather forecast improve for a week tomorrow! Going to ride this one on a lighter bike this year with less stuff. As we are in a pre-qualification year for Paris-Brest-Paris it is being run as a BRM so we need to present a physical brevet card at the finish (BRM rules rather than BR don’t get me started) even if we don’t have to fill it in because we’ve used eBrevet (which I use despite missing the ritual of receipts and/or stamps). ACP like to keep things old school.
Just entered my first Audax UK Brevet of the year, seems like an impossible task at the moment given everything in my life but if I don’t enter definitely it won’t be possible!
One of the nice things about Audax UK events is if you enter and don’t start you don’t lose too much money and the organiser gets a little donation.

Dealing with the last day of the holidays by shopping for audaxes, because there's a reminder in my phone to enter Barry's Bristol Butt Buster 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂 after seeing @wav3ydave 's write up last year.
