It's becoming a bit of an odd day #Today.
Nothing spectacularly odd, just a bit off kilter.

The weather is random - blazing sunshine alternating with very heavy rain, and the occasional thunder.

Sacha is doing a different exercise class tomorrow, so she's been here today instead.

I've been inspired by the new #AudaxUK magazine to (1) buy myself a Heart Rate Monitor strap (2) buy a book after reading the review (3) make a definite plan to get back to #cycling

Messages going back & forth with the GP surgery are annoying me.

And, I'm playing in a #petanque league match this evening - and I'm fretting about the weather (not my playing which will be what it'll be 😆 )

Maybe if it was a bit more June - like it'd be better?

In a fit of minor madness I have entered a permanent BR300 on Friday in an attempt to make up for the calendar event I failed to finish in April. I think I’m nearly recovered from my successful BRM400 and it’s a flattish route with a minimum average of 14.3 km/h so should be doable. Day of leave, early start, back home before midnight. Still keen to complete my Super Randonneur this year, would be my first since 2015…

I’ll remember my DI2 cable tool this time ;-)

First ride of June. Done this one a few times now. Each time it gets a few tweaks. Very happy now with route down to Folkstone and back as far as Sittingbourne before it gets a bit meh. I'll have to have a think about that. Leaning towards sticking more to the north downs from Chilham instead. More climbing but better surroundings. I'll give that a go later this month. #audax #RRtY #audaxuk #cycling #biketooter #kent

What failure looked like in 2017: was still feeling good in pic 1 but pic 2 was after spending the night in a bus shelter in a right state. Pic 3 is me at the same spot from a holiday with @runpaintrunrun returning to the scene of the crime in happier times ;-)

Two photos of the ground, one intentional, one not. Taken before and during my recent 24 hour journey to Holyhead and back under BRM rules. For those of you in the back that means a time limit of 27 hours including stops (there’s a minimum too but that has never concerned me). Quickest completed 400km event for me ever, despite a broken shifter towards the end, a minor crash and stomach illness. I am getting older but I am determined to keep at it and learn to improve.

Fantastic views during the ride and also sat down in a cafe for a meal in Holyhead like a normal person. Also two classic Welsh climbs, not too bad for a ‘flat’ route ;-)

The intentional pic was during an Allegaert stop at a coop - my most efficient and satisfying resupply effort ever. Didn’t feel rushed but managed to refill, rehydrate and sit in the shade eating an ice cream without too much time lost. No one has ever eaten an ice cream (or two) like him, and I am a poor shadow of his greatness.

Wondering whether to pack that ball for the Welsh beaches on Saturday afternoon ;-)

Still watching the weather as if I control it.

Oh no I am about ten days away from a 400

I do hope I fare better than the recent 300 I failed

Last time I rode the Llanfairpwllgwyngyll gogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch 400 I bailed at 260 after being sick and spent a very cold night in a bus shelter

In other news it was my fastest commute ever this morning so is guess I am fairly fit so who knows

Oasts and Coasts 300

I volunteered to route check and help out at one of the controls on this years Oasts and Coasts 300km audax and so it came to be I completed the helpers ride last weekend. Oasts and Coasts 300 km There’s about 3200m of climbing overall and close enough to 1900m of that is in the first 120km. Regardless it’s the flatter sections of this event I always find more of a challenge. The 40 km from Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh is for me always something to endure and get over with. Typically you’re riding into the wind for all or at least much of the way. Last weekend it was not so bad. Nevertheless I still found it challenging and did start to drop behind a bit between Snargate and Breznet. Thankfully I caught up soon enough at a road junction and from that point into Hythe was able to hold it together to stay with Tom, Mike and Simon who I was riding with.
