Returned to #Düsseldorf after a great Flèche Allemagne. Weather was favourable, but our „Albert Richter Collective“ Team saw one DNS and one DNF. It was great meeting many fellow #randonneurs . Thanks to #Audax Randonneurs Allemagne for organizing this #brevet 🙏.

#DeutscheBahn operates an InterCity #train between Eisenach and Düsseldorf (IC 2152). The last wagon was packed with snoring and perhaps a little bit smelling randonneurs 😇

Looking forward to a great Flèche Allemagne tomorrow. More than 90 teams have registered for this ride, each team comprising between three and five bicycles (yes, there is going to be a team of five tandems!). So we expect to meet up with circa 400 cyclists at Wartburg castle, #Eisenach, in the middle of Germany, on May 2nd. The weather forecast reads OK, dry but with some headwind. I am part of the „Albert Richter Collective“ team, starting at #Düsseldorf. Wish us luck! #audax #brevet #cycling

A few words and pictures about riding and helping out a bit in this years Oasts and Coasts 300 km audax.

Oasts and Coasts 300

I volunteered to route check and help out at one of the controls on this years Oasts and Coasts 300km audax and so it came to be I completed the helpers ride last weekend. Oasts and Coasts 300 km There’s about 3200m of climbing overall and close enough to 1900m of that is in the first 120km. Regardless it’s the flatter sections of this event I always find more of a challenge. The 40 km from Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh is for me always something to endure and get over with. Typically you’re riding into the wind for all or at least much of the way. Last weekend it was not so bad. Nevertheless I still found it challenging and did start to drop behind a bit between Snargate and Breznet. Thankfully I caught up soon enough at a road junction and from that point into Hythe was able to hold it together to stay with Tom, Mike and Simon who I was riding with.

Reconnaissance complète du BRM 600 Arsène Lupin qui aura lieu en septembre 2026. Une chouette aventure en longue distance. #velo #BRM #audax

Back home after my 52km bike ride.
It's seriously breezy out there - more so than I expected.
Plus, I must have planned the route to include every hill in south Leicestershire!
Still, it's completed and it's within time, so I can submit it for validation as a #AudaxUK BP ride. My first in a couple of decades (I need to check that).

Now, I'm absolutely knackered.

note: when dropping down the road through a grassy canyon at 60kph into Weymouth, there will be opportunities for TinyBalancingSheep* but your brakes will not stop you in the right place for the shot.

intrigued to see if I made it into the edit for Audax UK's video of yesterday's ride. We did 2 takes cos I destroyed the verité the video guy was aiming for on the first take by talking to him 😃 "did you do the cake video at Bristol last month?"

Bright side: I had a chance to re-pack my redundant arm and leg warmers, and my shoe covers, down the *back* of my jersey, so I looked less like Les Dawson in female cyclist drag.

Out yesterday on the helpers ride route checking for next week's Oasts and Coasts 300 National.

Good company. Fine weather. Challenging route in places.

Rye to Hythe via Romney Marsh fills me with dread but to be fair it was not too bad yesterday. Nearly always against the wind for 40k on this stretch. Not so yesterday.

Same goes for Birchington to Reculver, Whitstable to Graveney and the long insidious climb up to the top of Hollingbourne Hill through Newnham, Doddington and Ringlestone.

Riding with seasoned audaxers made all the difference. I pushed myself much more than I do on a DiY. Stayed with it though, took my turn at the front and never got dropped.

A good day out on the bike.

Got up really early. Great riding with nice people. One responsible adult crashed because they were filming on their smartphone. (Mostly fine, some scratches and a broken helmet.) Saw a baby horse. Still made it to 200k before dusk.
