*EDIT* Iraq has disputed this claim
The United States State Department is actively denying #VISAs for international #soccer players on teams that have qualified for the #WorldCup.
5 #Iraqi players were denied visas, with Ali Al-Hamadi specifically identified.
At this stage it's unknown if the Iraqi team would face the #USMNT, but in my mind, the U.S. is attempting to fix the tournament in favor of the U.S.

TBF, it is tougher to get a student visa to Canada than it used to be (which I think is a terrible policy).
"Still, applicants and immigration attorneys say its unclear how big a difference the exemption will make. The change means doctors can have their cases reviewed, but it doesn’t guarantee their green cards or visas will be renewed. It is also unclear whether U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will be able to process those applications in time to meet immigration deadlines like Alghoula’s."

U.S. immigration officials have quietly lifted a hold on green card and visa applications for doctors from three dozen countries. The move means physicians whose cases have been paused for months could soon get them renewed. But scientific researchers and other professionals from countries including Iran, Venezuela and Afghanistan said their immigration applications still won't be reviewed. The Trump administration put a pause on applications from those countries citing a need to improve security screening. Some immigrants have filed lawsuits to try to get immigration officials to decide their cases.
"As I predicted,🚨the hold being lifted is mostly a litigation position & PR move so far."

"A physician grp shared a survey with me yesterday after the #USCIS update. All respondents are physicians impacted by 39 C hold. Out of 151 respondents,🚨not a single physician reported approval or adjudic or any meaningful case mvt.
That strongly suggests that, at least so far, the public stmt hasn't translated into actual case proc on the gnd.
